djones (100), Michigan, USA Jun 22, 2008 This is a massive brew. Raisin, caramel, herb hops, resin, grapefruit, molasses, and thick. Full bodied and quite sweet with rather low carbonation. i am not a big fan of the syrupy feel and alcohol robustness.
Defreni (551), Frederiksberg, Denmark Nov 29, 2008 Flaske: Mørkebrun øl, med en overraskende god karbonering. Alkohol og rosiner og tørret frugt i duften. Kraftigt alkohol burn i svælget, men klart drikbar i betragtning af den høje procent. Sjov øl. Maverick34 (508), New York, USA Nov 27, 2008 As good as you’d expect. Poured dark and lovely with a smalish head. Smell of chocolate covered raisins and taste is similar. Maybe too alcoholy but this is really very well done. robforbes (784), Bremerton, Washington, USA Nov 27, 2008 pours thick and cloudy, dark orange-brown with a thin beige head, not much lacing. looks almost like a barleywine.
smell is of alcohol, prunes, raisins, caramel, barley.
taste is as it smells, thick and oily mouthfeel.
overall pretty good, more of a barleywine than a strong ale. ajwilliams (45), , Indiana, USA Nov 19, 2008 Wow, this is a unique beer. You won’t be bored while drinking it, but you will probably be half drunk by the end of your first bottle. That said, the taste is killer, the warmth is great, and the aroma is RAISON. This beer straight up has character. lithy (385), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Nov 17, 2008 Rating #300. Bottled 03/15/07. Opaque dark ruddy brown with some darker brown sediment clumps. Hints of red and orange in the body and a surprising amount of off-white head for the ABV but it doesn’t last leaving only a ring around the edge of the snifter. Raisins and sweet maple syrup aroma and even when relatively cold it has only light alcohol esters in the aroma. Belgian yeasty notes and good sticky body. Very sweet, more maple syrup, molasses, dried plums, raisins, prunes, then a bit of warming alcohol in the finish. Very much like the D’Etre just amped up.
