hogan873 (317), Joliet, Illinois, USA Apr 10, 2009 Hazy reddish body with a thick off-white head. Aroma reminds me more of wine than beer. Grapes, apples, oak, and a touch of citrus. Mouthfeel is smoother than I expected. Fairly creamy with moderate carbonation. The flavor gets better as you drink it. Sweet and malty up front. A powerful punch of wine-like flavor kicks in about halfway through. Finishes dry with significant alcohol warming. A good brew from a very unique brewer. Frank (1064), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 8, 2009 Overall comes off as a big old Belgian white or Triple but w/ an oaky red-wine note in the finish. I expected the flavors to clash more but the beer dominates and the wine-like characteristics just add accents. nqualls (1429), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Apr 6, 2009 On tap at the Flying Saucer in Nashville. Poured a hazy red/amber color with a very bubbly, two finger, off white head. The aroma was very much like a good wine, with apples and grapes and hints of oak and citrus. The flavor was pretty sweet. Didn’t detect a whole lot of oak in the flavor. Mainly reminded me of sweet red wine that my father makes. This was still a very good dessert beer. I’m glad I didn’t buy a 750 of this, but still enjoyed the beer. ChapelThrill (26), California, USA Apr 1, 2009 Bottle- 750 from BZ in Chicago. Loved the smell of this brew! I am also a wine lover... Strong scents of oak, and white wine type things like apple, citrus, and grapes. Interesting flavors blended with belgian and wine mix. Many don’t like the clash, but it was very enjoyable. Definitely was appreciated more after a few sips. Rustyham (545), miami, Florida, USA Mar 29, 2009 Updated: May 14, 2009A swill-tasting muddy mix of sporadic flavos. I believe that Belgian wits are like ladies, a strong man is needed to bring out their true potential, unfortunately dogfish head decided to pair it with a south beach homo. Put something manly in your wit, otherwise I’ll be forced to drink it with my pinky up. sjolles85 (77), Tampa, Florida, USA Mar 25, 2009 Another interesting beer from Dog Fish. Overall pretty tasty. I love the belgian/wine mix. If you can get it try it. RedXIII (127), Powell, Ohio, USA Mar 23, 2009 Interesting adaptation on a great style by Dogfish Head. Appearance is great... cloudy, sedimented ruby. It kinda has the aroma of Belgian Strong Ale mixed with red wine. Not sold on the flavor. Gets better the more you drink but that may have been the 10% abv talking. Flavor is fruity, a bit spicy and tart. Dry finish; not bad at all. radiomgb (1920), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Mar 20, 2009 Red in colour with some orange around the edges of the glass, thin but lasting white head, some light lacing. The aroma is of very light alcohol, highly sweet, red grapes, oranges. The flavour is of grapes, orange citrus, very lightly spicy with some black pepper, juicy, moderate alcohol, moderate sweetness. Sweet mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes with a lingering sweetness, warm.
Its okay but I was starting to wish that this came in a smaller bottle. Quite expensive, another weird one from DFH but it seems to work.
