Commercial Description:
A big, Belgian-style Wit brewed with coriander and orange peel and fermented with Pinot Noir juice. After fermentation a fraction of the batch is aged in Oregon Pinot Noir barrels, and another fraction is aged on oak staves. The beer is blended together before packaging. This has been one of our most popular Limited Edition beers at both our Rehoboth Beach, DE brewpub and at festivals. It successfully marries the refreshing citrusy qualities of a Belgian-style white beer with the robust complexity of a bold red wine.

Pours a hazy dark orange pink color with a thin film of white fizz and a few bubbles. Aroma is sweet oranges. Reminds me of those sugared orange slice candies I used to get in my xmas stocking plus a tad bit of yeasty doughiness. Flavor is doughy, very sweet banana-orange mix with slight tart finish. Overall, not as good as I had hoped, bit too sweet, but still have to tip the hat to dogfish for always trying new stuff.

Obtained at the Lucky Pub in Marion, VA in a 750 bottle. Beautiful lacey head, over the top aroma. It just shows most top raters are into quantity not quality. They always throw up a quick rating just to get up "on the board". I wish you people would slow down and enjoy what you are doing.

In short: An original juicy beer with a truckload of fruit flavours.
How: Bottle, source and exact age unknown, probably around 1 year old
The look: Partly cloudy red body topped by a medium white head
In long: Nose is tangy with unusual fruity notes of pomegranate and such. Taste is fruity, sweet and very juicy. A big mix-bag of fruits that include bananas, grapes, lemon, orange peels, cherries and more. Notes of grenadine. I’m not familiar with Pinot Noir enough to say if it does come through. Very sweet. Finish has a light tartness/sourness with a cherry after-taste. Alcohol is very well hidden. I usually don’t care for over-the-top sweet and juicy brews but this one was rather pleasant due to its originality. Called Red and White because calling a *DANY* 10% beer Pink sounded too gay.

On tap at the Brew Kettle. Pours orange red color with a thick off white head. Aroma is sweet fruit, yeast, and more sweet caramels. Flavor is complex with the light component of a wit, the fruitiness of a pinot. Light and refreshing. Medium body. Overall a nice brew that even my wife said she liked. Now that’s a compliment!

On tap, Eli Cannon’s. Pours gold-orange with a medium-sized head and significant lacing. Aroma is of yeast, sweet fruit, and mild sourness. Flavor continues balance of sweet and sour, with distinctive nectarine and wild yeast flavors. Very complex with a smooth body and off-dry finish. Well done, though stylistically ambiguous.

Bottle at Alembic in SF for SF Beer Week. Paired with spinach and bacon salad, which was a ridiculously good pairing. Pours a cloudy golden-yellowish-white with red tints to it that I’m guessing come from the pinot noir. Yeasty aroma with banana, lemon, and red wine. Flavor is like an excellent imperial Belgian wit, yeasty with sweet malt, mild spices, and a slight red wine flavor that just goes extremely well. Fairly heavy carbonation, but a nice palate that’s pretty full for the style.

Bottle. Pours a hazy, cloudy amber color with a smallish, white head. Lacing is good. Aromas of bananas, wine, port, and a bit of orange. Initial texture is heavy carbonation, almost like soda, and then suddenly extremely smooth. I have never tasted a beer with such a complex texture. Flavors are well balanced and as Dogfish advertises, it is like drinking the best of wine with a Belgium beer. Must buy!

750ml, bottled 2009. Wow, this one is really, really up there for me. Nose and body aren’t overly complex, but they are so solid in the flavors they do bring to the table: cherry, red currant, spice, lemon zest, orange peel. So solid. Palate is also a soft and pleasurable. I could go back to this frequently if it wasn’t a tad on the pricier side.
