fiver29 (703), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Feb 10, 2009 On tap at the Brew Kettle. Pours orange red color with a thick off white head. Aroma is sweet fruit, yeast, and more sweet caramels. Flavor is complex with the light component of a wit, the fruitiness of a pinot. Light and refreshing. Medium body. Overall a nice brew that even my wife said she liked. Now that’s a compliment! elihapa (1033), Honolulu, California, USA Feb 10, 2009 On tap, Eli Cannon’s. Pours gold-orange with a medium-sized head and significant lacing. Aroma is of yeast, sweet fruit, and mild sourness. Flavor continues balance of sweet and sour, with distinctive nectarine and wild yeast flavors. Very complex with a smooth body and off-dry finish. Well done, though stylistically ambiguous. nickd717 (1276), Palo Alto, California, USA Feb 9, 2009 Bottle at Alembic in SF for SF Beer Week. Paired with spinach and bacon salad, which was a ridiculously good pairing. Pours a cloudy golden-yellowish-white with red tints to it that I’m guessing come from the pinot noir. Yeasty aroma with banana, lemon, and red wine. Flavor is like an excellent imperial Belgian wit, yeasty with sweet malt, mild spices, and a slight red wine flavor that just goes extremely well. Fairly heavy carbonation, but a nice palate that’s pretty full for the style. branspra (204), Arlington, Virginia, USA Feb 7, 2009 Bottle. Pours a hazy, cloudy amber color with a smallish, white head. Lacing is good. Aromas of bananas, wine, port, and a bit of orange. Initial texture is heavy carbonation, almost like soda, and then suddenly extremely smooth. I have never tasted a beer with such a complex texture. Flavors are well balanced and as Dogfish advertises, it is like drinking the best of wine with a Belgium beer. Must buy! dmtroyer (409), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 6, 2009 750ml, bottled 2009. Wow, this one is really, really up there for me. Nose and body aren’t overly complex, but they are so solid in the flavors they do bring to the table: cherry, red currant, spice, lemon zest, orange peel. So solid. Palate is also a soft and pleasurable. I could go back to this frequently if it wasn’t a tad on the pricier side. dalekliz (546), San Diego, California, USA Feb 5, 2009 Bottle, sampled at Woodshop Quad. Pours a hazy reddish-amber with a bubbly white head. Sweet-sharp aroma, with malt, sugar, caramel, and over-ripe fruits. Sweet taste, of malt, caramel and papaya. Lingering sweetness. Nice. BeerBlockaid (538), Jacksonville, Florida, USA Jan 30, 2009 YES. I’ve been in hopheaven with all these supi dupi IPA’s I’d forgotten me beer roots in my fav Belgian Strong Ale. Let’s be honest; lately, a lot of the "Belgian Ales" out are stale and uninspired, poorly crafted and shipped out the next day. Well, in honour of the mountain homework and papers I have for school, I will finish this pint point 9er in one sitting. I don’t feel guilty no. Aint driven, and worked out for about 2 hours today. Ready to rock. So yes, nose is very bountiful in an arrangement that would make a West Palm wedding jealous. Yeast, floral notes, citrus hints and spicey spice. Taste is Pinot Noir, and you can certainly pick it out without gaining that unsightly vein racked across ye’ ol brow. Lots of alchohol, maybe a little ruff on that. I think Maudite has it down better on mellowing it out, but I like the bite of this as well. Taste carries on with yeast hints, dark fruits and an after burn of some citrus. ...talk to me Goose. Lots of spices and pepper corn in this as well. Slight brandy as well. Nice and chewy. I wish they would sort this into smaller bottles. Of, btw, it looks great too. ansermadide (496), Kyle, Texas, USA Jan 25, 2009 Sample from April 20, 2007 Beer Club Meeting. (Entering old ratings.) A beautiful beer! Orange color with a red hue, thin reddish head... aroma complex, of citrus and spice. The slight pungency of Pinot Noir is a nice touch, well blended... a touch of earthy sweetness. Yeast, spice, and a little bit of woodsiness. Easy and very enjoyable to drink. I love Dogfish’s special brews, and although they’re not chart toppers, they’re certainly well crafted and worth the experience.
