Commercial Description:
A big, Belgian-style Wit brewed with coriander and orange peel and fermented with Pinot Noir juice. After fermentation a fraction of the batch is aged in Oregon Pinot Noir barrels, and another fraction is aged on oak staves. The beer is blended together before packaging. This has been one of our most popular Limited Edition beers at both our Rehoboth Beach, DE brewpub and at festivals. It successfully marries the refreshing citrusy qualities of a Belgian-style white beer with the robust complexity of a bold red wine.

I remember this having a much more reddish hue in the past.... The aroma was very undistinct though a lot was going on... Tastes of a touch of pepper, notes of traditional wit spices, and a mild hint of the pinot noir and the vanilla flavor from the casks... A certain amount of the belgain yeastiness comes through as well... Medium-full bodied... Mild drying on the tongue in the finish with enough warming alcohol to keep you honest... IMO a gorgeous beer, very subtly complex....

(bottle - 750 ml) Cloudy orange color with a very thin white head. Aroma is quite tart with good hints of grapes, orange, coriander, and some candied sugars. Flavor is grainy and sweet at the beginning with a good hint of grapes, vanilla, oak, and orange peel. Some coriander and other spices are apparent in the middle along with the grapes and orange. A tart and slightly sour finish with a lingering aftertaste of grape peels.

Sampled at the 2008 Great American Beer Festival. One of the more intriguing beers I’ve tried from Dogfish. Hazy orange color with a thick white head. Aroma is of orange citrus, pear, coriander with toasted wheat. Pinot character shows itself in the flavor, but with minimal oak. Toasty biscuit finish. Pretty good.

Sampled at DFH night @ BWS: Orange pour with bubbly white head. Aroma of light raisin, honey, grape. Flavor is pinot noir wine, and a bready malt that dominates the flavor.

Bottle: Copper, light head and lacing. Nose of esters and light grape, fruit and doughy alcohol notes. Thud of grape, honey and strong alcohol. Brash, light acidic and a tannic tail. Not well put together.

Courtesy of Tony @ OTH. Pours copper, brownish. Aroma is oaky, light fruity notes, there is definitely some wine traces in there. Taste, oaky, little nutty, light caramel malts with nice notes of fruits (mainly the use of wine barrels). Pairs very well with cheese.

A nice surprise on tap at Redlight Redlight! It poured a nice yellow-pink color, almost a light orange. Nice thick white head. The citrus comes through more in the smell and the pinot noir comes through in the taste. It’s a nice fruity beer with a twist of wine and a good alcohol kick. Overall, pretty good.
