Ryan82SM (231), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Sep 28, 2009 Aroma of honey, champagne and coriander. Appearance was opaque gold with carbonated head. Flavor of white grape, champagne, honey and ginger. Palate was lively and bubbly. Beautiful. DiabolikDUB (143), Portland, Oregon, USA Sep 22, 2009 On-Tap @ Bailey’s Taproom poured into Snifter glass.
Pours a cloudy amber with some reddish hues and has a light, fluffy off-white head that allows for a wispy layer to remain atop the glass. The aroma has belgian yeast, soft malt, sweet tart cherry, vanilla and an overall spiciness. The flavor is sweet malt and cherry upfront and accompanied by belgian yeast, malt, oak, alcohol and spice. It finishes dry and tasty. This is a medium bodied beer with a pleasant amount of carbonation. Honestly, Its better than expected with nice Belgian characteristics and the cherry and barrel characters are soft but noticeable. Complex and thirst quenching. Headbanger (1574), Aurora, Illinois, USA Sep 21, 2009 750ml bottle 8/12/09 (Shared with BeerandBlues2 & RSRIZZO)-Pours an orangish amber with a small white head. Aroma of yeast, caramel, and malt. Taste of the same with some wine coming through. This is a nice medium bodied brew. Fratto (670), Arlington, Texas, USA Sep 20, 2009 Masks the alcohol well, very fruity (it’s part wine...), shows the wine in the finish. I wouldn’t think I’d ever have it again, but I glad I tried it. Elwood (677), Leesburg, Virginia, USA Sep 15, 2009 Serving: 750 ml bottle.
Appearance: Cloudy, light red with touches of orange and a foamy, off-white head. Decent head retention.
Aroma: Smells like a rose spritzer with notes of spice and wood.
Taste: Thick, rich, and sweet with definite pinot and wood notes. A little red wine astringency, slightly salty, and a huge maltiness. I certainly wouldn’t call it a Wit (Belgian Strong Ale is a much better classification), but it certainly isn’t bad!
Palate: High, prickly carbonation with a very rich mouthfeel and a medium, winey and sweet finish.
Overall: Hey, it’s a Dogfish Head beer! Very unique but I think they have a winner with this one. Definitely give it a try. JamesD (192), Centreville, Virginia, USA Sep 11, 2009 This beer pours a strawberry gold, similar in color to some of those strawberry blond beers you see. The aroma is of malty raspberries minus the acidity. The coriander is noticeable with a minerally scent. The flavor is very rich and silky, and surprisingly similar to a more standard Witbier, but with an extra layer of depth to it. There is some subdued fruitiness and a bit of yeastiness to add some funk to it. Very good and definitely worth trying at least once. Slipstream (735), USA Sep 9, 2009 Updated: Sep 10, 2009Fruity, floral aroma, with a dash of citrus and a wee bit of soap. Amber-orange pour. Old masters-type still life painting on label. I dont taste much spice, oak, or wine, just a little vinous flavor on the periphery. Mostly this is a sweet and robust ale, nicely bittered and with a soft touch to it. Tasty hops linger in the afterglow. Good, but I was expecting something more radical. It could be that the bottle I had was not fresh. bw1982 (70), , Florida, USA Sep 8, 2009 750 ml bottle. Pours a dark golden to light brown color with a rose tint. As far as flavor I was expecting to get more of a wine feel in the beer, but other than the slight bit of red color the Pinot was not evident. There was not too much of a head, and it wasn’t overly carbonated. The flavors were very good and very typical Belgian flavors. There was some spice, some sweetness which was balanced with some smokiness, and a great oak finish, probably from the barrels.
