Commercial Description:
A big, Belgian-style Wit brewed with coriander and orange peel and fermented with Pinot Noir juice. After fermentation a fraction of the batch is aged in Oregon Pinot Noir barrels, and another fraction is aged on oak staves. The beer is blended together before packaging. This has been one of our most popular Limited Edition beers at both our Rehoboth Beach, DE brewpub and at festivals. It successfully marries the refreshing citrusy qualities of a Belgian-style white beer with the robust complexity of a bold red wine.

750 ml bottle from coldbrewky. Pours an amber color with a small off-white head. The aroma is rich with Belgian yeasts, spices, and dark fruits. The flavor is complex and slightly sweet with red wine, vanilla, caramel, dark fruits and almonds. The mouthfeel is full and malty. The finish is long with caramel. Overall: A very tasty ale that gives a nice buzz, thanks Steve.

Bottle (750ml). Shared with blankboy, garthicus, GregClow and jerc - via trade with Zathrus13. Hazy peach-ruby pour, average frothy beige head. Spicy, pungent fruit/yeast aroma, very herbal and juicy - maybe a little like concentrated fruit juice with floral bitterness. The taste follows, not as intense as the aroma, just sweet juice and extract of flowers, seems a little less than 10%. Average body, mildly carbonated, floral aftertaste. Odd, pretty solid though - but a "wit" - nah!!!

Poured reddish, smelled like a standard wit beer. The taste was sweet, but not in the best of ways, I could hardly keep drinking it despite the steep price for it. I’m a fan of Dogfish, but they need to stay on the beer side and not try to delve into wine styles.

750ml - Poured a reddish-amber in color with a frothy off white head that hung around. Aroma is fruity with the strong character of classic Wit ingredients... coriander and orange... something unusual in the aroma though... vinous character from the wine perhaps. Flavor is very sweet with coriander, citrus yeast and "old wood". Warming from the alcohol. Little of the wine comes through. Some dark fruit at the end. Finish is sticky and sweet... really too sweet for me... Interesting... expensive... pretty good...

[1476-20080601] Bottle. Boozy malt and heavy yeast hops aroma has a little citrus. Hazy, amber orange body with quick off-white bubbles. Mostly grainy malt in the flavour with some boozy. Medium-full body. Good.

Pours clear copper with a creamy off white head. Smells like a wit with the corriander and other spices. Flavor is fruity, but is dominated by the alcohol. Citrus and woody flavors are also noticeable. I’m not a big wine drinker so I am not sure about the pinot noir flavor. Medium body with lively carbonation and a syrupy mouthfeel. It would be interesting to age a bottle of this for a while to see how the flavors would mellow over time.

Pours a pinkish red color with an off white head. Aroma is very fruity, much like a belgian white but also overwhelmed with alcohol. Flavor is much the same, yeasty and fruity but a bit dry at the same time. Too boozy for only being 10% alcohol.

Got some nice citrus in this beer along with the pinot noir juice. Nice big beer. I was very impressed with this. I love the fact that Dogfish head makes beer that nobody thinks about.
