Commercial Description:
A big, Belgian-style Wit brewed with coriander and orange peel and fermented with Pinot Noir juice. After fermentation a fraction of the batch is aged in Oregon Pinot Noir barrels, and another fraction is aged on oak staves. The beer is blended together before packaging. This has been one of our most popular Limited Edition beers at both our Rehoboth Beach, DE brewpub and at festivals. It successfully marries the refreshing citrusy qualities of a Belgian-style white beer with the robust complexity of a bold red wine.

Pours a hazy reddish orange with a nice fluffy white head. The nose is fruits, orange, maybe a little cherry. Nice cherry and yeasty components in the mouth. Finishes bitter with a nice dryness. I have actually held on to this bottle from last year. Not bad.

2008-06-01. Hazy golden orange, smallish white head. (3+) Mild aroma, touch of alcohol, muted fruit, something vaguely woody. Muddled flavour, fruit, light bitterness in the finish lingers. (6+) Average palate. Meh. Not unpleasant but does not inspire me to return for a second glass. Bottle, Mondial, Montreal, 4T

Sampled at OSLO/Guerde Tasting

Pour is copper red with a white head. Aroma of cherry, orange, belgian spices, and some raison/plum. Very interesting experiment. Good stuff.

Bottle. Thick reddish brown color with nice lacing. Aroma of raisins, caramel and yeast. Taste of fruit, yeast, bananas and spices. Nice finish. Good, but not worth the money spent.

Small sample at OSLO and Guerde’s tasting on Friday, 5-23-08. Cool red color with a white head (hey, I get it!). Mead-like, fruity smell features a tomato juice scent. Interesting taste: Fruity (orange, tomato), dull, and vegetal (celery). Medium to heavy body. Lively in the palate. An extra point in the overall impression for uniqueness.

Light brown almost peachy color with a light white head (with maybe a hint of pink or is that the pinot noir juice playing tricks in my mind). You can smell the pinot juice even away from the glass during the pour. Up close the smell is more like a wit beer. A little spicy like a tripel with a smooth mouthfeel. The taste is very strong initially of wine notes with a spiciness at the end and a lingering spice on the finish. Not especially complex, it is what they describe. My oenophiliac friend enjoyed it more than me

Strong hazy white coloured body with a light ruby tint and a thinnish white head. Aroma of nice malt, some spice and a ton of sweet flavoured fruits. Medium-bodied; Strong raisin and prune flavoured body with a good malt backbone and some yeast coming through. Aftertaste shows some good flavours, mostly malty coming through with some mild spices. Overall, a decent belgie beer with some light kicks of hops but nothing else. I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchasd from Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia in 2007, sampled on 26-May-2008.
