Commercial Description:
A big, Belgian-style Wit brewed with coriander and orange peel and fermented with Pinot Noir juice. After fermentation a fraction of the batch is aged in Oregon Pinot Noir barrels, and another fraction is aged on oak staves. The beer is blended together before packaging. This has been one of our most popular Limited Edition beers at both our Rehoboth Beach, DE brewpub and at festivals. It successfully marries the refreshing citrusy qualities of a Belgian-style white beer with the robust complexity of a bold red wine.

[Bottle, thanks STLWill!] Pours hazy red with a small pink head. Aroma is vinous with a good deal of coriander. Taste is somewhat tart with a lot of the pinot showing through. Medium mouthfeel. An interesting beer, and although I do like beer aged in pinot barrels, this one wasn’t quite as good as I was hoping.

Poured a nice reddish color with a medium white head. Aroma reminded me of some of the better belgians I’ve had; spicy and sweet. The kicker with this beer though was that underlying grape/wine aroma. I sampled this on the same evening I had a Grape Ale from Sam Adams Longshot contest. The difference is astounding . While the grape ale was cloying, this beer was a bit more sharp. The wine added some great complexity and interest to a beer that already has a wonderful Belgian backbone. Great beer.

(bottle thanks STLWill) Pours red with a white head that leaves sticky lacing. Aroma of light oak, tomato, grain, and V-8 juice, and orange peel. Taste of beet, light sweetness, some grape and spice, but not too much else. Medium mouthfeel.

Smells strongly of orange and coriander, some wheat malt notes. Pours a very hazy burnt orange color with almost no head and very little fizz. Taste is very complex with a warm alcohol feel. Very enjoyable.

Pours a hazy brown with a very light pink head and lacings. Quite sweet with a light sweetness and acidity. Complex aromas of raisins, dates and wood. Hints of dust, cheese, funghi. pepper, wine and coriander. Some bready notes with a light alcohol touch. Medium to full bodied. Has a slightly sticky mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. Bitter finish with lingering aromas of sugar and dust.

Dogfish Head Red and White is a hazy amber brown color with a nicely formed, but quickly disappearing head. The aroma is full of orange and corriander, similar to most Belgian Wit beers. The taste is much more complex, with orange, corriander and very interesting woddy and pinot noir notes. The finish is dry and leaves you wanting more.

WOW! This is a bit of a departure from my normal favorite stouts, but that being said this is an extremely complex beer. I live and die by good drinks, and this IS A GOOD DRINK! The aroma does not do the flavor justice. The beautiful golden pour delivers apleathora of flavor! The light palate is comlex and rife with flavor. The wine really shows through and dances on your tonge at the mid palate. The front is a very crisp smooth intake, and the back leaves just the slightest bitterness. Without the back of the palate i would have forgotten I was drinking Beer. Not in a bad way though! NO, rather this pour was a delicious rereshing drink that provoded a cornucopia of flavor. AN ABSOLUTE DELIGHT IN THE MOUTH! Drink this one if you are in the mood for a light refreshing change from the normal pour. Would pair VERY well with whitefish or pork.

Very interesting... Pours a honey color with a decent head that dissipated rather quickly. Smells of coriander and the orange, quite a bit like the Belgian it’s attempting to be. Flavor is, well, like a Belgian Double, red wine, with some oak. But man, it’s very complex. Palate is thick yet crisp. Overall, I’m very impressed.
