Great aroma for a belgian, doesn’t kill you with the citrus but rather accentuates the fruity, spicey nature of the beer. Very solid flavor. The body is very creamy, with a sweet caramel and fruit flavor at first that drifts smoothly into a spicey, only slightly alcoholic finish. Hides the ABV well behind the guise of a wine. | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Mar 31, 2008 Updated: Apr 30, 2008750ml bottle. Off white head over a hazy medium amber body. Nose is ester and yeast. Taste was full and moderately sweet. Very drinkable for a big beer. So damn good. checkmatei1 (630), Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 31, 2008 Bottle: Poured a light red color with some head present. The aroma was that of oranges and sugar. The flavor was very malty and strong alcohol in the beginning. As this brew warmed up, the other secrets of fruit and spices become more obvious. Overall a decent beer, one that probably does well in the cellar. wingman333 (236), San Antonio, Texas, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 30, 2008 One of the best tripels I’ve had...reddish hue and small head, decent carbonation. Dry but moderate sweetness. Nice balance overall. Peachy flavors, some wine. I can taste the wine more than the oak. glkaiser (1163), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 30, 2008 Clear, light red. Looks like a watermellon jolly rancher. Aroma is grapes mixed with wheat. Taste is a harsh mix of alcohol, fruit and spices. Dry finish. Interesting mix that I enjoyed, but wouldn’t want very often. More than anything, alcohol just sticks out too much and holds back the flavors. garretjax (103), Colorado, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 30, 2008 Deep red rose color, heavy sediment with a quickly fading pinkish white head. First scent is the grape/wine then demure citrus tones. Light body and light carbonation. Blood orange flavor and a velvety feel of more. As it warms the complexities of the pinot become more evident. Big semi sweet finish thats hangs thick in the end. Very interesting style. AR (423), Georgia, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Mar 28, 2008 Dogfish Head actually appears to have accomplished what it set out to do with this beer. Strong wit beer base with a definitive red wine accent. andyhite (290), Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Mar 26, 2008 750ml bottle. the pour is a burnt orange tinted amber, but with a slight cloudy red tinge. the aroma is peculiar...tart yet juicy fruit, not too hoppy, considering the source. it has its complexity. curacao peel, wheat as well. these aspects are also in the flavor. the pinot juice adds a nice twist. good smooth rounded flavor on the palate, the finish hints at oak, and a neutral spice. flavorful...and crafty.
