wingman333 (233), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Mar 30, 2008 One of the best tripels I’ve had...reddish hue and small head, decent carbonation. Dry but moderate sweetness. Nice balance overall. Peachy flavors, some wine. I can taste the wine more than the oak. glkaiser (1150), Seattle, Washington, USA Mar 30, 2008 Clear, light red. Looks like a watermellon jolly rancher. Aroma is grapes mixed with wheat. Taste is a harsh mix of alcohol, fruit and spices. Dry finish. Interesting mix that I enjoyed, but wouldn’t want very often. More than anything, alcohol just sticks out too much and holds back the flavors. garretjax (103), Colorado, USA Mar 30, 2008 Deep red rose color, heavy sediment with a quickly fading pinkish white head. First scent is the grape/wine then demure citrus tones. Light body and light carbonation. Blood orange flavor and a velvety feel of more. As it warms the complexities of the pinot become more evident. Big semi sweet finish thats hangs thick in the end. Very interesting style. AR (417), Georgia, USA Mar 28, 2008 Dogfish Head actually appears to have accomplished what it set out to do with this beer. Strong wit beer base with a definitive red wine accent. andyhite (290), Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA Mar 26, 2008 750ml bottle. the pour is a burnt orange tinted amber, but with a slight cloudy red tinge. the aroma is peculiar...tart yet juicy fruit, not too hoppy, considering the source. it has its complexity. curacao peel, wheat as well. these aspects are also in the flavor. the pinot juice adds a nice twist. good smooth rounded flavor on the palate, the finish hints at oak, and a neutral spice. flavorful...and crafty. jmuhops (663), Winchester, Virginia, USA Mar 26, 2008 Pours very hazy orange-amber with a half-finger white head. Actually smells exactly how I was expecting it to: one part Belgian witbier (coriander, lemon zest, wheat), one part earthy grape, and a half-part oaky vanillin. The flavor has a bit more of the witbier. To be more specific, a double witbier, complete with all the sweet alcohol and bitter wheat I’ve come to expect from such beers. The Pinot (Oregon, my favorite) does come through mid-flavor, adding delicate cherry and earth, but that double wit finish destroys the goodness it imparts. Tone down the finish and you’ve got a near-perfect beer. joshwilfong (769), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Mar 25, 2008 hazy blood orange appearance, flavor is predominately of a belgian wit with the coriander and orange peel being well represented. the pinot noir adds a little sweetness and depth. the finish has a hint of oak. overall it is a nice belgian wit, but the pinot noir and aging doesn’t add a great deal, especially not enough to make up for the price tag ShawnMalloy (119), Auburn, Massachusetts, USA Mar 24, 2008 Pours a dark orange with a mild white head. Aroma is of citrus. I smell a slight hint of coriander. The taste has a big influence of orange peel. Sweet, but not overly sweet. The mild hoppiness is buried under the tart overtones.
