radagast83 (1273), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Mar 24, 2008 750 ml bottle. Pours a slightly hazy orange color. The aroma is heavy on the coriander and orange, but that does not detract from it. Flavor is spicy in the same general way. A quite refreshing beer at 10% - as it hides the alcohol quite well. Dough77 (771), Aurora, Illinois, USA Mar 23, 2008 A bit high on alcohol in both nose and flavor, but get past that and this beer is terrific. Great corriander/orange flavors meld extrmely well with the oak and wine barrel aging. Usually not huge on the "spicy" beers, but this one was done so well. gunhaver (1024), Tampa, Florida, USA Mar 23, 2008 Updated: Jun 4, 2008Bottle, courtesy Tony at Oldsmar Tap House. Pours a orangeish red color, very cloudy, with a big fluffy white head. Creamy bands of lacing stick to the glass. Plum, cherries, alcohol, in the nose. Some spices I can’t place my finger on. Flavor is spicy, too: cinnamon, nutmeg. Plum, rummy, very sweet. Some comparisons to Westy 8. Crisp, easy drinking, very good. desurfer (1067), Pinellas Park, Florida, USA Mar 22, 2008 Sample at Total Wine in St. Petersburg. Thanks for bringing out the good stuff, Matta! Pours a dull, cloudy gold with a twinge of red. Flavor beings like a typical wit, albeit stronger, with some orange peel and coriander and decent hoppiness. The red wine character peeks through as the beer lingers on the palate, with notes of wood and ripe fruit. The alcohol is hardly noticeable. Another unique (and tasty) beer from my old home state brewery. biznizness (930), Mooresville, North Carolina, USA Mar 22, 2008 This beer ruled the school. Picked it up at City Tavern in Winston and enjoyed it at my engagement party last night. Just another very original, delicious beer in the Dogfish tradition. jrehmert (7), Ellicott City, Maryland, USA does not count Mar 21, 2008 The beer has fruit/berry aromas mixed with malt sweetness and relatively strong orange peel/coriander... The appearance is slightly cloudy and dark amber (if the entire bottle is poured). It has rather low carbonation, so the head is very thin with a thin rim if white bubbles surrounding the mouth - a bit of lacing is left behind as the level lowers. The initial flavors are of malt and grapes with some lingering bitterness from the orange peel, which is pleasant given the slight background malt sweetness. There is a slight alcohol warming, but late in the palate. It has medium-to-heavy body as that might depend on the level of citric acid present - but is a very satisfying warmth when accompanied by the grape and malt flavors that spread through the palate. gscottyp (1), USA does not count Mar 20, 2008 Rusty, hazy pour. Very little head. Good balance of flavors; nice mouth feel. Nice easy brew; no strong alcohol presence. sallad (110), USA Mar 20, 2008 Hazy orange (bottle didnt mention being bottle conditioned...) and a think offwhite head. Classic Belgian aromas or spice and sweet malt. Pepper and wood undertones. Strong coriander in the mouth, followed by smooth and refreshing sweet malt. Nice body while still easily quaffed. Too easily... Finish is tart citrus and woody wine-like notes.
