Ansset13 (127), Wilmington, North Carolina, USA Mar 12, 2008 The pour is a nice reddish amber, with a quickly dispersing white head. The nose is very similar to a typical belgian triple, with scents of coriander, caramel and other more subtle scents. The flavor is bold, well balanced and mirrors what one would expect from the nose. A good beer. mephisto (1144), Taiwan Mar 12, 2008 another very strong offering from dogfish head. it has fruity aroma noted with caramel and prune. the appearance is cloudy amber with thin white head. full bodied, the flavor is orange and cream with hint of coriander and pepper. hotstuff (3175), Indiana, USA Mar 12, 2008 Bottled on 02/12/07. Small fizzy pinkish head that mostly diminished, fair amount of lacing, very fizzy, fast rising carbonation, transparent, and an orange hue. The aroma was malty, alcohol, sweet, coriander, fruity, and oranges. Ditto for the flavor with a dry finish. Tingly mouthfeel and medium body. An okay brew, fairly balanced, but nothing stood out that left me wanting this one again as there are better available of this style which happens to be one of my favorite beer styles. I didn’t care for the way it tasted as it needed a little more flavor character IMO. harmfuldrunk (288), New Jersey, USA Mar 11, 2008 nice looking red brew with lots of sediment as said, very sweet easy drinking beer, the spices take it in a good direction just a really funky experience. it would be nice to try on tap and even aged a bit, since I do enjoy some of there beers aged. much better than black and blue but hey its a totally different beer style, but unlike that one I would like to drink this again! talon1117 (616), Bellvue, Colorado, USA Mar 11, 2008 Pours a mostly clear amber color with sediment and a white, average, and fluffy head which is mostly diminishing and leaves some excellent lace. Nose is mostly wit with some barrel notes; lots of yeast (bready and estery), coriander, spicing (clove and pepper), vanilla, floral, and hints at oak and strawberry. Flavor is similar with lots of clove and vanilla, lighter notes of coriander, pepper, floral, maybe cinnamon, and oak towards the finish. Palate is medium full, soft, and very creamy with some mild warmth. Finishes creamy and average length wth some spices, plenty of vanilla, and some lingering coriander; the bitterness and warmth are mild but make some presence in the finish and leading to an almost hot note far after the flavors have diminished. The Pinot notes seemed fairly insignificant but the other barrel notes were more significant; oak in the aroma and vanilla present throughout. The palate may have been better suited for some other types of beers but the creamy vanilla notes got in the way of the other notes. Very unique and complex but not incredibly smooth or drinkable. A fun experience to try but nothing I would be in a hurry to try again. joekfsu (138), Boardman, Ohio, USA Mar 9, 2008 25.6 oz bottle. Pours a light red with 1.5 cm off-white head. Aroma of some random fruits, mostly dark fruits and oranges. Initial flavor is balanced between sweet fruit, oak, and spice. Flavor ends dry and the pinot noir really comes out and dominates here and on the aftertaste. Medium body, some light lacing, light to moderate carbonation, and alcohol was defiantly noticed, kind of wine like in that sense. Drinkability is kind of low, if you want wine, buy wine. bma4573 (136), Mechanicsville, Maryland, USA Mar 8, 2008 Pours an unfiltered deep orange color, with a strong aroma of orange and spice, very sweet with a hint of oak, without to much alcohol over powering the flavor. 17thfloor (1403), Chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 7, 2008 Pours clear pink with large bubbles and a fine white head. Sweet sugary orange/vanilla/fruit aroma. Little bit woody and spicy but that quickly gets pushed away by sweet orangy/vanilla syrup like flavor. Really interesting brew with some vanilla creaminess. Its easy to taste the belgian white under there but its a very nice compliment for the Pinot. Alcohol is a little strong in the finish, hot flavor. Bitter grape aftertaste. Body is thin and a little sticky and the carbonation is lively. This is for sure a dessert beer as any real quantity of this sweet nectar would make someone sick.
