SDbruboy (1832), San Diego, California, USA Oct 14, 2007 750 ml bottle, from slob! Pours a pretty, reddish cranberry, with amber highlights and a small whitish head. Wheaty, wit aromas, wit prominent fruity and vinuous notes, some spice, coriander, and orange as well. Sweet, fruity flavors, wheat notes, pinot and grape flavors, prominent spice, a little white pepper, coriander and allspice. medium body, smooth and gentle carbonation. Interesting and enjoyable. golubj (1275), Sunnyvale, California, USA Oct 13, 2007 Draft at Barcade. Some lemon citrus and wheat in the aroma. The flavor was similar but also had grapy undertones. It was sweet overall, and pretty tasty. PilsnerPeter (2585), Flushing, New York, USA Oct 12, 2007 Tap at Barcade’s 3rd Anniversary Party: Pours a nice ruby red color with a creamy thick off white head that lasts. Crisp aroma, slightly vinous. There’s a sharpness from the wheat malt, slightly buttery with a cranberry hint, probably from the Pinot Noir. Creamy feel to the body, with slightly vinous qualities in the initial flavor, with more Witbier character later on. Yeasty esters, and banana hints come through toward the finish. Not very complex, but crisp & quaff-able all around. Interesting experiment, which wasn’t overdone (which is surprising with this brewer). iowaherkeye (1832), Bakersfield, California, USA Oct 3, 2007 750mL, Bottled on 02/12/07. Clear orange red with a one finger off-white head, and fades to a ring. Coriander and grapey notes up front. Pepper, spicy alcohol, and Belgian yeast come next, all in about equal amounts. Hints of dry wood also present. Flavor has pretty much the same characteristics, though in different amounts. Belgian yeast and coriander strongest, pepper and spicy alcohol come next. Dry woody finish with not much in the way of bitterness, and the alcohol is . As this warmed, some fruity caramel malts made themselves apparent. Maybe I suck, but I didn’t really pick up on any red wine. Moderate smooth carbonation with a full body. Pretty good--better than the Black & Blue. MilkmanDan (1940), Eagan, Minnesota, USA Sep 30, 2007 Pretty bright red. Fruity, smells of pomegranate, grape juice, and coriander. Sugary but not sweet, very dry at the end. Somewhat harsh. Could use some more fruit character in the flavor. rocbyter (902), Waterbury, Connecticut, USA Sep 27, 2007 Wine aroma is very evident along with hints of cardboard malts. Slight alcohol in the aroma also. Color is between orange and amber with a small reddish head. Taste starts tangy and finishes with some thing resembling a fruit juice. A very unique beer. Ughsmash (3981), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Sep 26, 2007 Thanks to Sombeast for opening this up! Poured clear deeper red with a short cap of white head. The aroma picked up very sweet caramel, red grapes, and spices (coriander hits relatively hard).. lots of other sweetness and some Candi sugar as this warmed up.. intriguing! The flavor was a bit muddled.. sweet vinous and darker fruity notes pair with caramel at the core.. herbal notes, light oak, peppery spices, and fusel notes ride through the back-end.. too sharp at the finish with grape skins and alcohol. Medium-bodied with a relatively creamy middle.. again it got sharp at the end. Dansting (222), Overland Park, Kansas, USA Sep 25, 2007 Bottle. Poured a cloudy reddish-brown color with a small white head. Slight lacing. Aroma is a combo of a red wine and an amber ale, perhaps. Flavor is maltier and not as sour as the aroma led to believe it would be. Very smooth and drinkable. Alcohol presence to it, but it doesn’t taste like it was 10% to me. Nice. Thanks timmyk77 for the taste.
