Commercial Description:
A big, Belgian-style Wit brewed with coriander and orange peel and fermented with Pinot Noir juice. After fermentation a fraction of the batch is aged in Oregon Pinot Noir barrels, and another fraction is aged on oak staves. The beer is blended together before packaging. This has been one of our most popular Limited Edition beers at both our Rehoboth Beach, DE brewpub and at festivals. It successfully marries the refreshing citrusy qualities of a Belgian-style white beer with the robust complexity of a bold red wine.

Wine aroma is very evident along with hints of cardboard malts. Slight alcohol in the aroma also. Color is between orange and amber with a small reddish head. Taste starts tangy and finishes with some thing resembling a fruit juice. A very unique beer.

Thanks to Sombeast for opening this up! Poured clear deeper red with a short cap of white head. The aroma picked up very sweet caramel, red grapes, and spices (coriander hits relatively hard).. lots of other sweetness and some Candi sugar as this warmed up.. intriguing! The flavor was a bit muddled.. sweet vinous and darker fruity notes pair with caramel at the core.. herbal notes, light oak, peppery spices, and fusel notes ride through the back-end.. too sharp at the finish with grape skins and alcohol. Medium-bodied with a relatively creamy middle.. again it got sharp at the end.

Bottle. Poured a cloudy reddish-brown color with a small white head. Slight lacing. Aroma is a combo of a red wine and an amber ale, perhaps. Flavor is maltier and not as sour as the aroma led to believe it would be. Very smooth and drinkable. Alcohol presence to it, but it doesn’t taste like it was 10% to me. Nice. Thanks timmyk77 for the taste.

Pours a red color with a lasting white head. Nutty, spiced aroma, with a touch of orange peels. Smooth, creamy body is sweet and malty. Big almond character. You can detect the underlying wit style here, it’s just trumped by malts and nuts. An interesting blend of flavors in this above average brew.

Red tinted, almost pink, copper colored pour, decent sized white head that fades quickly. Fruity, wine like-nose. Medium to light bodied, very light carbonation. Tart grape flavor, slightly bitter finish with just a touch of alcohol warming.

Bottle courtesy of Hopscotch. Pours a cloudy red color with a medium white head. Very good aroma and flavor of grapes, wheat and spices with some yeast, the alcohol is not detectable. The body is light and creamy and the carbonation is soft. Nicely done.

Bottle: Dark caramel in color, major hues of dark Raspberries, moderate to large frothy light pink head, a few rings of lacing.   Never thought I would say this, but getting light Pinot Noir accents on the nose.   The Belgian Wit aspect is very muted, if at all there.   Otherwise it has hints of grape skin, almonds, and very pale citrus like spices.   Might notice a bit of alcohol as well.   Richy breadiness on the tongue, subtle hints of some dark pitted fruit, light grape skin and raisin, but no real citrus feel to this one.   Almost has more in common with a Quadruple I’d say, but without the heavy fruitiness.   Somewhat of an odd Duck, and certainly not what I was expecting.   Hides the alcohol fairly well, but tiz warming.   Moderate to full bodied, mouthfeel seems average.   Heavy graham cracker and alcohol finish.   Hmmm... not really sure what to think of this.   Definitely different, certainly not bad, but almost seems a bit confused.   I wished the Imperial Wit aspect of this beer was more pronounced.   Thanks Jay for the bottle!
