Commercial Description:
A big, Belgian-style Wit brewed with coriander and orange peel and fermented with Pinot Noir juice. After fermentation a fraction of the batch is aged in Oregon Pinot Noir barrels, and another fraction is aged on oak staves. The beer is blended together before packaging. This has been one of our most popular Limited Edition beers at both our Rehoboth Beach, DE brewpub and at festivals. It successfully marries the refreshing citrusy qualities of a Belgian-style white beer with the robust complexity of a bold red wine.

Poured a translucent pinkish red color with no white head. Smells like pinot noir (surprise) and vanilla. Flavor is yeasty with touches of peanuts and a strong flavor of grapes. Soft finish, but very fizzy.

Brought to C-U Beer Club by htsprint. Interesting beer. Oregon Pinot Noit is one of my favorite wines, so this held promise. Deep ruby/amber body beneath a small, foamy white head. Aroma was slightly fruity, notes of wood, slight evidence of the pinot, spice, yeast. Failry full bodied and a nice, smooth feel in the mouth. The flavor was more bitter than expected, vinous, fruity, with that spiciness of a Belgian strong. An interesting beer and something good to sit and sip.

Bottle. Reddish in colour with a rather large head. Very fruity with notes of citrus, berries, pineapples and spices. Kinda vinous.

750 ml bottle shared with fordest and toncatcher. Pretty decent flavors of some older rippening fruit and some sweetness.

750 ml bottle thanks to Secret Santa. Ruby Red pour with a really nice pink head. Lacing was nice too. Aromas were citrus and tart. Currant, pineapple, and some spice. Flavors were not tart at all though. Very malty flavors were still sweet and fruity. I am not a wine fan, so failed to pick up what would be Pinot Noir notes, but the over all flavor was really really good.

Body is a dark amber, white head. Aroma does have grapes, slightly yeasty, light alcohol, similar to cheap low alcohol wine, but still plesant. Taste is fairly fruity, grapes, dried apricots, some of the spice showing through with alcohol and backend.

Ahhh, Red and White. Light prunish amber color with a moderate off white head. As it sets some fresh berry scent come out. A dichotomy of scents, there are some that I enjoy, with hints of wheat and oak; and then some fine Pinot Noir wine. While not present in the aroma, the strength does come out after a few quaffs with a mild flame and oak in the finish. Start does have a light sweet wheat and spice quality, quite typical of a wit. The middle kicks in and suddenly there is a burst of grapes and berries, there is even a light malt quality. Linger is rather dry with a gentle return to some malt and wheat. When it comes right down to it, Dogfish Head delivers an exciting Belgian Strong Ale, again.
