Commercial Description:
A big, Belgian-style Wit brewed with coriander and orange peel and fermented with Pinot Noir juice. After fermentation a fraction of the batch is aged in Oregon Pinot Noir barrels, and another fraction is aged on oak staves. The beer is blended together before packaging. This has been one of our most popular Limited Edition beers at both our Rehoboth Beach, DE brewpub and at festivals. It successfully marries the refreshing citrusy qualities of a Belgian-style white beer with the robust complexity of a bold red wine.

Alcohol/floral aroma. Bright red color. Even the head has a red tint to it! Kind of bitter, burns a little going down. Little sweet, somewhat undefined though. Too complex to call it a beer?

Bottle from Immy from a while back. Pours slightly transparent, cloudy raspberry red. Lots of oaky fruit in the nose. Pretty yeasty with some barnyard funk. Fairly earthy. Flavours are a touch medicinal, lots of oak and weird fruit flavours and a tonne of funky grassy notes. Pretty good, but this one creeps up on ya! Thanks Tim!

Finally decided to take the plunge on this one. Honestly, having read so many wide-ranging reviews of this brew, I expected to have a stronger reaction one way or the other. Instead, I was mildly impressed and also mildly disappointed. Color of a lambic, body of a wit, heavy on the syrup - I actually don’t get much pinot at all here, except for a mild fruitiness in the nose. It’s not unpleasant but actually just a bit indistinct, like a modest tripel with an infusion of Robitussin or something. Meh.

Drank on April 28, 2007. The aroma was a light to moderate yeasty, with a hint of raisin. The head was frothy, white in color, with good lacing and mostly diminishing. The body was hazy and red in color. The initial flavor ws a light to moderate sweetness and finished the same. The finish was average. The body was light to medium. The texture was creamy and a little syrupy, the carbonation was lively.

750ml. dated 2/07. pours clear deep red with white head. nose is odd, almost funky but not in a good way. over ripe fruit. flavor has some over ripe fruits, cloyingly sweet, fruit juice. mouth feel is med. carb. low. i’ve never really had a beer like this but that isn’t a good thing.

750 ML bottle: 5/27/07: Reddish orange w/ a thin but lasting pinkish beige head. I get the coriander and the grape juice, but I’m having a hard time finding the orange peel. Woody oak is light, and malt seems a bit non descript, but wheat comes through once it warms. Also some light plum fruitiness as it warms. Well balance w/wheat malt and coriander up front. Woody tannin flavor in the back ground to help dry it out a bit. Dry finish, grape flavor is light and not winey. Aftertaste is lightly woody, bitter, and dry. Lighter medium body, low CO2, well hidden alcohol, smooth then dries out in the mouth when swallowed. Interesting! I’m not quite sure what to think of this beer except maybe give it to a wine drinker and see what they think? Not bad, but not exceedingly good, definitely different.

Red and White was a strange blend of wit and pinot noir. This beer was interesting, but it lost me with the red wine notes as I can’t stand red wine. This is a one timer for me, but I understand why others may love this blend.

Ah...A wit, now I know why this was different than I expected. I thought something along the lines of the black and blue, but this was lighter in color and different. Another great beer from one of the greatest. One downside, as always, is the price.
