Commercial Description:
A big, Belgian-style Wit brewed with coriander and orange peel and fermented with Pinot Noir juice. After fermentation a fraction of the batch is aged in Oregon Pinot Noir barrels, and another fraction is aged on oak staves. The beer is blended together before packaging. This has been one of our most popular Limited Edition beers at both our Rehoboth Beach, DE brewpub and at festivals. It successfully marries the refreshing citrusy qualities of a Belgian-style white beer with the robust complexity of a bold red wine.

Cloudy, reddish amber appearace with a small, off white head and good lacing. Grapey aroma, well spiced, some yeastiness. Tart, crisp, fruity, wheat taste, moderately sweet, woody, earthy, vinous. Medium-to-full bodied, well carbonated mouthfeel leading to a long lasting, spicy finish. Interesting mix of flavors, which the brewers probably had fun putting together.

750ml bottle and served in my NB worthy glass: Poured a sunset orange hue topped by a nice frothy lasting head and very good lace. The aroma has notes of orange zest, blood orange and tangerine, hint of grape, coriander, floral hops, some other biscuity character, and a very faint nose of oak.

The taste is a hodge podge of sweet and tart fruits, mild spice and a simple yeast base. The finish is oaky and dry with the alcohol making a palate cleansing appearance. The mouth feel has a drawn out stickiness without the refreshing quality of a Witbier. Overall, once again DFH let me down with it’s latest releases. Nice to try once but I will likely not buy another after I finish this bottle and the other I bought.

2007- Cloudy magenta/ cranberry juice in color...coriander, orange and an overall sweet smell,.expected more to show through on the nose and palate...a soft creamy mouth-feel...wine seems to drown out much of the Belgian flavor...slight sweetness, flat flavor, and a sour finish...very intresting

750ml bottle via trade with JB175 I believe. Thanks. Pours pinkish red, with a 1 finger pink/white head. Aroma is light with hints of coriander and a bit of something else lightly winey. Taste is very interesting, beer and wine with definite coriander and orange peel is there too. This really strange but good and the alcohol is also noticeable. Good work sam keep up the experimentation.

Bottle from Weaver St. Market in SoVill. bottled 2/19/07. pours a bright and hazy red with a sudsy white head that fades. Nose is typical of a belgian wit with less coriander, and added oak, pomegranate, and strong vinous notes (guessing this is the pinot juice.) Flavor is similar, with a wet, bitter finish. Fruity and strong, yet refined a bit in the middle. This beer is thin in the middle but much thicker in the finish. An interesting experiment that I can say Im happy to have attempted. My conclusion is that this is a success.

Rich, mellow aroma and flavor. Ripe red fruits. The only complaint I have is there is a bit of rough, dry woodiness on the finish and aftertaste.
