Commercial Description:
A big, Belgian-style Wit brewed with coriander and orange peel and fermented with Pinot Noir juice. After fermentation a fraction of the batch is aged in Oregon Pinot Noir barrels, and another fraction is aged on oak staves. The beer is blended together before packaging. This has been one of our most popular Limited Edition beers at both our Rehoboth Beach, DE brewpub and at festivals. It successfully marries the refreshing citrusy qualities of a Belgian-style white beer with the robust complexity of a bold red wine.

Very nice pour, a clear ruby body having a tinge of amber topped by a creamy pale pink head. The aroma is fruity with grapes and cherry and some citric tartness. The alcohol and some light spicing is also present. Not much of the Wit base recognizable in the flavor except for some coriander and orange zest. It’s got juicy stone fruits, caramel, vanilla, iron, oak, and alcohol. A bitterness from the hops begins midway and intensifies. The finish is dry and bitter. Interesting.

Medium sized head with a beautiful pink body. Good aroma, wine-y, orange. Taste is sort of sweet, a little creamy, but pretty smooth.

750 bottle. Cherry colored pour with a light haze to it. A very vinous nose with musty grain notes. Interesting. The flavor is very unique and enjoyable! The wit taste is there with musty grain and hints of fruit and spice, but the juice and oak aging have added so much more complexity. There is a light sweetness that is marked by ample honey and a deepness to the brew that is likely the oak imparting tough to spot vanilla/wood hints. The fruity notes are more complex than I would have expected and while nothing stands out, the fruit is well balanced and the orange peal and pinot noire juice (cherry?) seem to really complement each other. Very fresh tasting. Full mouth feel. A great experiment!

Bottle at Dilly Deli 4/26. Very tasty - definate presence of the wine addition to the Belgian Wit-style. Fruity sweet with crisp mouthfeel - pretty smooth. Alcohol flavor is moderate throughout but balances well. Solid all around - very different but solid. I’d like to try it again.

Aroma is yeasty and spicy. Color is red, with a white, bubbly, thin head. Solid mouth feel with a strong bitter/sour upfront quality. Strong alcoholic quality. Very spicy in flavor.

750ml Bottle: Aroma is lightly sweet. Smells vinous with notes of spices, oak, cherries, and cloves. Poured a pinkish amber color with a medium, rocky, light pink head that lasted throughout. Good lacing. Clear. Sparkling. Flavor is medium sweet and lightly bitter and tart. Tastes of cherries, Cabernet, coriander, clove, citrus, and a little yeast. Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, sweet, vinous finish.

Bronze-red in the light, light cherry red with a bit of shade. A little like "OFF-brand" mosquito repellant. Frothy! Spice-coriander, big flavor note, but not a lot of depth and complexity.

This was a cool beer. Once again, they work the oddball ingredients that make a sure thing. Pours almost red and the aroma of citrus and coriander. The coriander brings the flavor throughout and shows all the way to the finish...it is a deep bodied but fun wine woops beer! :-)
