BDR (2139), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Apr 24, 2007 Nice red color with a littel head. Fish and sour malt. Yeasty body with some fruityness to it. Kinz (2179), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA Apr 23, 2007 Pours a nice ruby tinged amber, compact head of tight bubbles, great lacing. Aroma is faintly of wood and undefined dark fruits. Full mouth feel is a mix of dark berry flavors like blackberry and a solidly wood oriented finish. Sticky malts add a touch of caramel. Coriander is a faint afterthought. Another interesting experiment from DFH. Although not even remotely a wit, this was still one of their better recent efforts on the fringes of brewing. Keep it up guys! FlacoAlto (2473), Tucson, Arizona, USA Apr 23, 2007 Sampled March 2007
Pours a brilliantly clear, though opaque unless held up to the light, it is a deep reddish color and is topped by a frothy, initially three finger thick, pink-tinged, pale, perhaps tan, white head. The aroma is interesting; fruity with notes of berries, plus some definite austere, woody-tannic character. Perhaps a touch of leather, touch of dried leaf character that is not quite tobacco, but really the fruity grape aromatics are the dominant notes in the nose.
Quite thick feeling on the tongue, it is almost syrup-like in its thickness. It is perhaps not quite as sweet as the thickness would suggest, but this beer is still quite sweet. The sweetness accentuates berry flavors as well as some hints of strawberry. Grassy malt notes are noticeable in the middle, and linger on into the finish. A touch of sharpness is found towards the end; it seems to be a mix of prickly carbonation and some slight hop bitterness. A touch of earthy spiciness is also in the finish; it is a touch green, perhaps indicative of some American coriander. The finish has some light woody / tannic notes to it.
I had some hopes for this brew, while it is not as unbalanced as some of Dogfish Head’s higher alcohol brews. I am quite surprised by the tangelo character here; it is not really evocative of citrus (don’t get me wrong, there are some notes here). All in all this brew is a disappointment; it seems to lack a depth of flavor and a finesse that I was hoping for, plus it just doesn’t say Wit to me either. At least there are no off flavors here, it is just that this combination of flavors just don’t hold my interest.

drfabulous (1212), Columbia, Missouri, USA Apr 23, 2007 Lovely Belgian style - I don’t taste the wine so much as a light barley. But with a bit of a fruity taste. Really good beer, though pricey at 14 bucks. CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Apr 22, 2007 Pours a transparent copper amber with ruby hues and a frothy, clingy off-white head. Has a sweet earthy caramely malty aroma with nice coriander spice and a touch of grapey fruitiness and oak with bready Belgian yeasty notes. Body starts full, bready and earthy caramely malty sweet with a light balance of red grapes and nice biscuity Belgian malt and yeasty complexity. Mild orange peel citrus flavor combines with woody oak and bittersweetness in the finish. A very unique, well-brewed and enjoyable beer. BeerBlitz (48), Roslyn, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 21, 2007 From 25.6 fl oz bottle. I did not enjoy this as much as I expected to. Beautiful color, but little head. Alcohol is noticeable in aroma, and at first taste, but quickly goes away. Thin mouth-feel. I think I need to try this again at the brewery to get a real feel for it. nolankowal (850), Columbus, Ohio, USA Apr 21, 2007 Bottle shared by sliffy. Crimson pour with a white head. Aroma of grape juice, pal malt, and light oak notes. Flavor held some vinous elements coupled by that unmistakable DFH malt presence...light cooked grapes as well. Medium body, slightly fruity with a sweet/nutty finish. Pretty decent stuff and a neat experimental from DFH, but a bit heavy on the malt. thornecb (1736), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Apr 21, 2007 Pours ruby red into a shaker. Bright white head slowly recedes leaving no lacing. Wheat and cranberry aromas. Full wheat with a lasting pinot fizz.
