Commercial Description:
A big, Belgian-style Wit brewed with coriander and orange peel and fermented with Pinot Noir juice. After fermentation a fraction of the batch is aged in Oregon Pinot Noir barrels, and another fraction is aged on oak staves. The beer is blended together before packaging. This has been one of our most popular Limited Edition beers at both our Rehoboth Beach, DE brewpub and at festivals. It successfully marries the refreshing citrusy qualities of a Belgian-style white beer with the robust complexity of a bold red wine.

Bottle. Average fizzy, slightly off-white head into clear red-amber body. Impressive lacing. Aroma is oranges, coriander, honey, light alcohol and some dark fruits are all noticed in the aroma. Flavor is initially lightly sweet and finishes lightly bitter with the original sweetness intact. Average finish duration. Medium to full bodied. Oily texture, but maybe slightly more soft. Lively carbonation. Alcohol was well hidden- it was noticed more in the aroma then in the flavor. I have to agree: not that much on the witbier side...but I have never been that big a fan of witbier anyway. Wasn’t sure what to expect but I am quite enjoying this brew. I kinda like the way the beer never feels that heavy...(for a strong beer) would be a good one for a warm, sunny day. Go out and try one.

this is actually pretty cool though it’s a little one dimensional. pour is clear. the entire bottle is clear. for some reason DFH is not bottle conditioning anything anymore. i guess they’re too big for it. color is basically a honkers ale. aroma IS orange peels but i also get apple rinds. there’s alcohol and definitely a little alcohol. flavor is really winey and not terribly belgian whitish. but it’s really cool. i’ll rebuy this and rerate it paying more attention. 3.8 works.

From a 750mL Bottle. Pours a transparent, ruddy amber color with a respectable layer of off-white head. Sweet, fruity aromas of squeezed orange juice blend oddly with some cherry notes that are borderline grapey. Alcohol is clearly present in the nose. Medium bodied, sparkling mouthfeel. Very estery and spicy, with more sweet orange and cherry flavors on the tongue. Fusel alcohols are much too hot. Lots of soft fruits and yeasty alcohols linger in the final smack. Thanks for sharing, Clark!

Reddish Orange with White Ring. Coriander, Fruit and Yeasty Aroma. Medium Hazy Mouthfeel. Palate Covered in Layers of Yeast, Mixed with Spices, Notably Coriander and Some Subtle Orange...Fruity Pinot Noir Flavors Keep This Beer Soft and Memorable. Noticeable Warming. I Want to Argue that It Seems a Bit Thin, but I’m Not Sure I’d Want it Any Other Way. Overall, Outstanding.

This beer pours a pinkesh red color with a medium white head leaving some good lacing down the sides. The aroma on this beer is not very strong but it is very pleasant! The flavor nocked me away! You’ll have no idea that this beer is 10% ABV, it is WELL hidden! The complexities of the flavor in this thing are awesome. It starts off kinda sweet and creamy but in the end becomes alittle dry and lingers for quite some time! I highly recomend getting this stuff if you can! I know I will be buying some more!

Wow, this is really interesting. I say this is a perfect example of why it is good that DFH continues to push boundries. Beautiful to look at, with it’s slightly pink, thick head. The flavor is as close to a beer/wine hybrid as one could imagine. I would love to see them try this with some other reds in the future- a zin would be really interseting. The wit lends itself perfectly to this kind of screwing around.

I had this beer at the GABF last year and it was wonderful, the bottled version was a different experience. Pours reddish clear with a dinky with head. Aromas of fruit and red wine, coriander, citrus. The flavor was a let down, as with most DF high grav brews it was syrupy sweet and had a soap flavor in there. Almost like a underage barleywine that had been oaked in wine barrles. I poured this with 3 other beer geeks and we did’nt even finsh the 4oz sample we took.
