4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 kevinator (360) - The Colony, Texas, USA - DEC 28, 2012Surprisingly great and a unique spin on a Belgian strong ale. Nice yeast and fruit aroma with a hint of hops. Coppery color with a thin head. Nice crisp and dry finish. The flavors are sharp and blended with yeast, tart fruits and a nice hop finish. Dogfish really seems to have pit their signature on this.

Aged 3 years: This was very good, I like that the belgian wit character dominates but the alterations are also present and blend well with the other characteristics. My friends stated that they thought the aging was very beneficial.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 otakuden (1704) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - MAY 29, 2013
Appearance:
Polished copper and blood orange melt together under a creamy white head which lingers long and thick. A slow stream of bubbles maintains the fluff while lace arcs across the sides of my glass.
Nose:
Musky and funky with peach and apricot skins, grape musk, strawberry puree, pear musk, and oaked chardonnay. Starts tannic with the skins then delves into juicy sweetness of the flesh within.
Palate:
Soft frothy mouthfeel reminds me of biting into angel food cake, angel food cake soaked in delicious fruit juices. Definitely different. Oaked chardonnay meets musky funky champagne meets fresh fruits ripe for the eating and juicing. Caramel and honey edges. Stewed apricots, peaches, and pears in the middle – lightly spiced. Strawberry underneath.
Final Thoughts:
Intriguing and best enjoyed with a touch more chill than I would normally employ when tasting a beer. Of the Red and White versus the Black and Blue, I have to say I enjoy the Red and White a tad more. Both are good in their own right, but if I had to pick a favorite…

Bottle from Bruisin Ales. Pours brown with a thin khaki head. Has a bit of fruitiness on the nose with a hint of red wine. Very quaffable. It’s interesting how everything blends together. Has a bit of the barrel on the finish. Hides it’s alcohol very well. Nice!
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 VT (872) - Quebec City, Quebec, CANADA - APR 29, 2013
750 ml bottle from and shared with Albatross. Pours a lightly veiled, very pale, golden amber with a resilient white head. Aroma is Belgian yeast. Flavor is very fruity, oranges, coriander, wild strawberries, wood. Finish is reminiscent of white and red wines, fieldberries, and wild yeasts. Some lingering red grapes, wild fruits and booze in there, too. Light to medium body, soft mouthfeel, average level of carbonation. Very solid, strong ale.

A - Pours a cloudy neon red orange color. Kinda looks like a tequila sunrise stirred up.
S - Clove and coriander jump out right away followed by tart fruit, white grapes, and vanilla. Green apples and fresh wood come out as it warms.
T - Tart acidic fruits swirl with grapes, cherries, oranges, and strawberries that are layered with some peppery spices and an oaky wheat that seems to dry out some of the sweetness. Hints of vanilla and herbal hops present some bitterness towards the end. A red wine like aftertaste.
M - Full bodied with prickly carbonation.
Very complex flavors. It’s a cross between a Wit and a Pinot. Lots of sweet and acidic fruits and the carbonation helps out with sweetness. The oak didn’t show up in the flavor as much as I thought it would and I’m glad. Any more oak and it would have overwhelmed the rest of the flavors. One of the most complex beers I’ve ever had. This beer will not bore you by any means.

On tap at DFH Brewery. Pours a golden copper color with decent head retention. Aroma of dried grapes, apricot, and some wheat notes. Taste is sweet at first then tart in the finish. Too much wine characteristic for my liking.
