Commercial Description:
A big, Belgian-style Wit brewed with coriander and orange peel and fermented with Pinot Noir juice. After fermentation a fraction of the batch is aged in Oregon Pinot Noir barrels, and another fraction is aged on oak staves. The beer is blended together before packaging. This has been one of our most popular Limited Edition beers at both our Rehoboth Beach, DE brewpub and at festivals. It successfully marries the refreshing citrusy qualities of a Belgian-style white beer with the robust complexity of a bold red wine.

Bottle shared with GregClow, Hogtown Harry, Jerc, Blankboy, and Garthicus, courtesy of Harry. Blood red, rusty, good sized frothy white head. Fruity aroma, some alcohol, ok. Good taste - very fruity, hoppy even, some alcohol. Lightly spiced as well. Good.

Bottle: Big orange peel aroma with lots of corriander. The aroma is also lightly vinuous with hints of cherry. It pours a transparent reid with a moderate pinkish-white head with good retention. The flaovr is loaded with orange peel and corriander with just the faintest notes of banana. There is a slight tart vinuous flavor in the background. The finish has a light flowery bitterness.

2/9/07 vintage. The beer pours to a very nicely carbonated orange-red body with lots of active movement and tiny particulate. A frothy white head sits on top. The aroma is very much like a Belgian witbier. Vibrant coriander, oranges, and wheat... with white grapes. The flavor is wheat, coriander, orange peel... with subtle pinot noir characteristics. The dry woodsy oak comes out nicely. The palate is nicely carbonated, light and dry. 10%? Ha!!! The beer also has a nice velvety texture.

From bottle at the Winder Hotel. Nice wheat aroma with sourish tang, coriander and orange peels with some musk melon and mild yeast aroma. Reminiscent in nose of a Weizenbock. Cloudy golden-amber with thin off-white head. Meidum-heavy body with medium carbonation. Wheat and light honey, candi sugar, orange and mild spice. Alcohol sweetness with caramel. Musky and yeasty, with a mild bitter orange and hops finish. Tasty with mild alcohol warming. Nice beer.

This was an interesting beer. Not overly spiced like many Belgians but definitely had some crispness to it. The flavor was almost a little fruity it seemed. Don’t know much about wine, so couldn’t tell you whether or not this tasted like a pinot noir, but it was good enough.

25 oz bottle. Pours an odd pinkish orange body, clear, under a fizzy one inch fizzy foamy thick head. Lots of vigorous carbonation. Heavy foamy lacing. Nose is very grapey with lots of oak, heavy yeast influence, heavy syrupy malt, and alcohol vapors. Quite an odd combo. Lots of grapes up front in the flavor too, along with heavy yeast influence. Very sweet throughout but the oakiness adds a touch of dryness on the finish. The alcohol is clearly noticable. The mouthfeel is fairly thick and somewhat syrupy, but isn’t especially cloying because of the super fizzy efforvescent carbonation. Overall, this was OK, but it really didn’t stand out. Interesting concept, not so interesting result.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, blankboy, tupalev, jerc & garthicus - courtesy of HogTownHarry. Hazy red with a small off-white head. Fruity aroma with a lot of grape, a bit of coriander and other vague herbal notes. Medium bodied. Flavours of fruit and cream, with hints of wood and wine, and a mildly herbal finish. Didn’t wow me, but still quite tasty.
