Commercial Description:
A big, Belgian-style Wit brewed with coriander and orange peel and fermented with Pinot Noir juice. After fermentation a fraction of the batch is aged in Oregon Pinot Noir barrels, and another fraction is aged on oak staves. The beer is blended together before packaging. This has been one of our most popular Limited Edition beers at both our Rehoboth Beach, DE brewpub and at festivals. It successfully marries the refreshing citrusy qualities of a Belgian-style white beer with the robust complexity of a bold red wine.

Pours a pinkish amber with ruby/violet highlights and a thin pink lasting head. Aroma is sweet tangy grapejuice, light on the oak and vanilla, with hints of perfume, flowers, and sugary sweetness. Fruity flavor dried out by the wood, with oaky and grapeskin tannins, grapejuice flavor (not concord- but red wine grapes), a bit salty, earthy, and a touch of DMS- sea-salt spray quality. Notes of orange peel spice and belgian yeasty phenoilcs from the wit characteristics come through a bit in the end as it warms. Mouthfeel is nice, and appears to be bottle conditioned? Definitely unfiltered as there is a certain sediment in the bottle. At first, on tap at EBF, I didnt like this. Then out of a bottle it seemed very nice even fresh (1 month in the bottle) This might also be nice with some age on it.

Bottle purchased at Mustard Seed Market a few months ago, back when the weather was warm and sunny...Sigh.... those were the days. Now I get to keep myself warm by drinking and having a space heater next to my giblets. Anyhow, this pours a very attractive orange with a thin white head. Aroma is complex, filled with yeast, orange peal, a little earthy oak and just a hint of the grape juice. The flavor does not disappoint. It really comes off with a mix of the lovely Belgian yeast flavors mix with a genuine sweetness, oranges, a tad bit of spice-ginger, almost. I can’t much taste any serious wine notes, instead it tastes more mellowed by the oak aging. Somewhat fluffy in on the tongue, chewy at the end, and boy howdy does it mask the alcohol, like a good beer should.

A Twitter friend recommended this beer. This is one of those dangerous beers; the alcohol taste is hidden by the complex flavors. The nose is fresh, fruity with citrus tones. The color is almost a peach blush. It pours with a nice white head which slowly fades but never completely goes away. The flavor reminds me a bit of Dutch "drop", the tasty licorice that is so popular in the Netherlands. This beer has changed my whole attitude about Dogfish - I’m planning to buy a few bottles and set them aside for future goodness.

Pours a mysterious pinkish red which seems to constantly morph between bright ruby and deep amber when the beer is still. Aroma is banana, bubblegum, spices, and oak. Flavor is beautifully dry, with berries exploding throughout, with an oaky sourness. The red wine really comes through. Finish is dry and slightly bitter. This is a great offering from Dogfish Head.

Bottle. Reddish in colour with a rather large head. Very fruity with notes of citrus, berries, pineapples and spices. Kinda vinous.

What an interesting brew! Poured a sharp red (looked sort of like a framboise it was so red) and didn’t show any hazyness until the end of the bottle when I was able to stir it. The head was thick, pink, and creamy. The aroma was sweet, had a definite dryness to it, yeasty sourness. The flavor was warm and dry from alcohol, had a belgian taste to it, and a vinous quality at the end. The palate was dry and warm with the finish heating your entire body. Very glad I had this beer.

Deep amber pour with off white head and lace. Aroma of bread and citrus and fruit. Flavor is a sweet thick rich combination of apple/grape juice with a very warm finish. It almost tastes like it has a hint of cherry to me as well. Mouthfeel is solid and carbonation is good. Gets a little more abv as it warms. Very nice to me so far:)
