Commercial Description:
A big, Belgian-style Wit brewed with coriander and orange peel and fermented with Pinot Noir juice. After fermentation a fraction of the batch is aged in Oregon Pinot Noir barrels, and another fraction is aged on oak staves. The beer is blended together before packaging. This has been one of our most popular Limited Edition beers at both our Rehoboth Beach, DE brewpub and at festivals. It successfully marries the refreshing citrusy qualities of a Belgian-style white beer with the robust complexity of a bold red wine.

Hazy, amber, pink grapefuit hue. Decent, medium sized bubbly head. Aroma has the Wit characteristics, lots of oranges but more of the flesh to me rather then the peel. Medium bodied, creamy, cranberry tart, tangy with alot of citrus and spices. Firm maltiness emerges as brew warms. The pinot juice provides the tangyness and it plays well with the spices and body. Alcohol is in the mix but not a sore thumb by any means. Very unique, transcends the style and almost beer itself. Bravo for pushing the envelope. Why wouldnt this be labeled a fruit beer considering the Pinot Noir juice?

Pours a red color with a lasting white head. Nutty, spiced aroma, with a touch of orange peels. Smooth, creamy body is sweet and malty. Big almond character. You can detect the underlying wit style here, it’s just trumped by malts and nuts. An interesting blend of flavors in this above average brew.

Pours an orangish golden in color with a lively white head. The aroma is mellow, fruity, somewhat oakey. The flavors are sweet, notes of pure sugar, ripe peach, nothing really on the wine note. In all, it is a very tasty, sweet, big belgian ale.

From a 750. Big thanks to Hopscotch for shipping this intriguing beer to me. Pours clear reddish / copper with a rocky off-white / pinkish head. The aroma has heavy vineous notes while having the wit standard notes of orange and coriander. There is also some light banana and smooth wheat. Medium / full body that has an underlying sharp carbonation lurking under the velvety smooth slick body. The flavor starts with some orange, but is quickly overtaken by a thick vineous trait (pinot, I’m sure), coriander spice flows seemlessly with it. There is a cane sugar sweetness as well. The finish brings in more spice and a grape-like tartness. For using a dry wine base and a fairly dry wit style, this is one heck of a sweet beer. A good beer, but not great. I expected more.

This was a good beer and an interesting mix to match. Poured a cloudy reddish color with a thin white head. Taste was very winey, but not overpowering the spiciness of the wit. Very well done.

Copper color beer with a lasting thin off-white head that left attractive lacing on the glass. Light cherry fruit nose with some red wine and oak. Dry oaky red wine flavors with sour cherry, warming alcohol and faint spice. The ABV hides well and bites you when you aren’t looking. Nice sipping beer.

Bright red and a pinkish head that fades to white. Nice aroma of Citrus - mango, orange - some spices, red wine, and, uh, red plum jam? Flavor is very winey up front. Some molasses, some brown sugar, but mostly red wine. The citrus and spice I could get in the aroma is completely lost in the flavor. Now, normally I don’t like to make suggestions, but The Bride suggested, and I agree, that some sourness would add some zing and really wake it up. Anyway, as it warms, a nice marzipan note emerges, as well as cherry and raisin. But a touch of lambic character would be nice here.

750 ml bottle. Bottled on 2/9/07. Poured The color is interesting. Hazy yellow on the edges and light red toward the middle.

The head is two fingers thick, fluffy and long lasting. Patches of lace are left as it recedes.

Aroma is bready, citrusy, vanilla, with some cherries and spice.

Flavor is citrusy and wheaty, light cherry, maybe some raspberry.

Body is creamy, full, and lush.

Finish is long with citrus and spice.

I spent over an hour and a half with this bottle and I enjoyed it thoroughly
