garretjax (103), Colorado, USA Mar 30, 2008 Deep red rose color, heavy sediment with a quickly fading pinkish white head. First scent is the grape/wine then demure citrus tones. Light body and light carbonation. Blood orange flavor and a velvety feel of more. As it warms the complexities of the pinot become more evident. Big semi sweet finish thats hangs thick in the end. Very interesting style.
ajwilliams (45), , Indiana, USA Nov 28, 2008 Belgian yeast right off the bat, with strong hints of the pinot noir following. Mandarin oranges, vanilla, banana, brown sugar, apricots, yeast, and alcohol, with other complexities that escape me after having felt the effects of a full bottle. The oak it there, but in a way that you might miss if it weren’t for the description on the bottle. More carbonation towards the end of the bottle (is this possible?) FROTHINGSLOSH (1558), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 26, 2008 Sampled from a 225.6 oz brown bottle this beer poured a red-copper color with a large pink-white head and lots of floating chunks. The aroma was faintly sweet and woody. The flavor was sweet, woody, fruity and bitter with a touch of cherry and apricot. There was a strong tart, tangy and bitter finish that detracted. The body was thick and the alcohol well hidden. Interesting but rather disappointing. chicagobears (327), Elk Grove Village, Illinois, USA Nov 21, 2008 My Dad picked this one out after winning a bet ;) I’m not sure if winning the bet makes this taste better, but it tastes damn good.
I noticed the Wit taste from the first sip. The complexities were more noticeable as it warmed. Strong and quite sweet. Coriander and peppery spices are notable.
The wine and oak characteristic are an afterthought, then again I’m not a wine connoisseur. jeff789 (94), Pennsylvania, USA Nov 20, 2008 I remember this having a much more reddish hue in the past.... The aroma was very undistinct though a lot was going on... Tastes of a touch of pepper, notes of traditional wit spices, and a mild hint of the pinot noir and the vanilla flavor from the casks... A certain amount of the belgain yeastiness comes through as well... Medium-full bodied... Mild drying on the tongue in the finish with enough warming alcohol to keep you honest... IMO a gorgeous beer, very subtly complex.... zach8270 (1470), Henrietta, New York, USA Nov 19, 2008 (bottle - 750 ml) Cloudy orange color with a very thin white head. Aroma is quite tart with good hints of grapes, orange, coriander, and some candied sugars. Flavor is grainy and sweet at the beginning with a good hint of grapes, vanilla, oak, and orange peel. Some coriander and other spices are apparent in the middle along with the grapes and orange. A tart and slightly sour finish with a lingering aftertaste of grape peels.
