3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. The pour was a clear peachy orange with a large (2-3 finger) white frothy head that receded slowly down to a large puddle and collar, and possessed some excellent sheets of lacing.
The aroma was mildly sweet with a grain malt and a moldy Belgian yeast and had notes of citrus (orange), a mild hint of red wine, dark fruit (grapes & plums), oak cask, and a bit of coriander.
The taste started off mildly sweet with a hint of dark fruit and a mild wine presence, and then became moderately yeasty with a light spicy citrus note and a slight alcohol presence at the end. The flavor lasted an average time after the swallow with a nice spicy wine flavor left behind.
Mouthfeel was a hair above light in body with a mildly dry texture and a soft carbonation.
Overall an impressive tasting brew, unlike anything I have tasted up to this point. The mild "Pinot Noir Cask" flavor blended remarkably well with the Belgian yeast, thus hiding the high ABV and making it a most enjoyable drinking experience...

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bomber - Rosey peach colored pour with white head. Nose is heavy on yeast, grapes, and light fruit. Pretty heavy on the sediment for an initial pour from a bottle chilled upright. Taste is almost like an Abbey Dubble with some grape juice. Light on the palate. Well done for something I didn’t have high hopes for.

APPEARANCE - Cloudy orange with a 3-finger head that dissipates. A little lacing.
AROMA/SCENT - Sweet, piney, herbaceous.
TASTE - Not too hoppy, not too sweet. ABV somewhat hidden.
MOUTHFEEL/PALATE/TEXTURE - Good carbonation for such high ABV.
VALUE - Reasonable.
OVERALL/DRINKABILITY - Pleasant, well-balanced. Quaffable.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle at Akkurat, shared by friends. Pours a semi clear light amber with a rather viscous, oily appearance. Aroma is quite vinous with caramel, honey, ripe tropical fruit, orange and oak. Taste is caramel, honey, ripe tropical fruit, orange marmalade, roasted barrel notes and sweet white wine. Mouthfeel is very smooth and somewhat oily with almost no carbonation. Excellent!!

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle (750 ml) @ Akkurat. Shared by Ansalon, thanks! Amber/golden with a small white head and little lacing. Aroma is soapy with winey notes, a bunch of spices (including coriander), orange peel and oak. Taste is also quite soapy and malty with spices, orange peel notes, light winey presence and oak. Full bodied. Medium carbonation. Soapy finish. Tasty, but quite heavy and the spiciness doesn’t help the drinkability. A Dogfish Head kind of beer...

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at Akkurat shared with friends. Hazy copper pour with thin white head. Aroma is quite winey, lots of grape, leafy notes, some cherry and a lot of spice. Taste is not as fruity, lots of wheat, grainy, still a strong winey character, some alcohol. Palate is full bodied with med carbonation, a bit heavy.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
In tulip glass from the bottle. Slightly hazy deep orange with a quickly disappearing off white head. The smell is Belgian yeast. Spicy, citrus, and bready. The Pinot Noir grapes add additional complexity but are well hidden. High alcohol with a typical tripel spiciness. Some clove, fresh bread, and some chocolate flavors. Less grape notes than expected. The woody oak notes from the barrel ageing add a nice earthiness. Light long lingering hippy bitterness. Great and complex beer!

Copper color. Hazy with a little alcohol taste but not overpowering. Definite wheat and citrus taste. A little grape in the finish. Overall very nice and easy drinking.

"i’m still at odds on this one. it started out just sweet with not nearly as much complexity as expected. obviously as it warmed from 45, it got better and more complex. i’m still not sure about the interplay betweeen the sweet pinot aspects and the bitter orange peel, but the aftertaste that was a little harsh at first was better by the end of the bottle. the aroma was nice right off the bat. sweet but complex...grapes, citrus, malt. nice body...maybe a little cloying. not my favorite DFH beer, but not bad. better beers for the price, though
