A modern update on a 9th century Finnish proto-beer. Brewed with rye, we caramelize the wort with white hot river rocks, then ferment it with a German Weizen yeast. In addition to juniper berries foraged directly from the Finnish country-side we added a sort of tea made with coriander, cardamom, lemon grass, Indian Black Tea, and ramps leaves. The spicing is subtle and balanced and Sahtea is a highly-quaffable, truly-unique brew with a full-mouth feel.

Bottle 75cl. @ home.
[ Trade by CaptainCougar ]. Clear light medium orange color with a small, frothy to fizzy, virtually none lacing, fully diminishing, off-white to white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, spicy, cinnamon, moderate hoppy, tea, junipeer, spicy. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long duration, spicy, berry - fruity sweet, junipeer, tea. This is not my kind of beer. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20100208]

11th October 2008. GABF. Pre bottled version which I think tasted a little different to the bottle. This was presented as being made with Finnish rice and ramps leaves as well as all the other ingredients. Cloudy looking beer. Soft smooth palate. A nice touch of junier dominates all the other flavours which are ultimately quite subtle.

Tap at Churchkey. Golden color, large white head. Aroma of jasmine, dandelion. Taste has summer fruit and spice, very much a mixture of a lot of competing tastes and aroma. Interesting but jumbled.
