COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A modern update on a 9th century Finnish proto-beer. Brewed with rye, we caramelize the wort with white hot river rocks, then ferment it with a German Weizen yeast. In addition to juniper berries foraged directly from the Finnish country-side we added a sort of tea made with coriander, cardamom, lemon grass, Indian Black Tea, and ramps leaves. The spicing is subtle and balanced and Sahtea is a highly-quaffable, truly-unique brew with a full-mouth feel.

Colored a little like orange kool-aid. Bright and creamy. Spiced and would be good with Indian food.

Bottle from Total Wine Sterling from 2011. Pours orange with a thin khaki head. Aroma is massive black tea and berry. Fantastic! Kind of light on the tongue. Hides it’s alcohol well. Lots of berry on the tongue. Finishes clean. One of the best beers I’ve ever had.

Served poured out of the bottle into a pint glass. Has a nice sort of dark orangey color, smells delicious with hints of the juniper berries, floral notes, and a surprise spice. Taste is amazing with the juniper berries and spice really coming together well and a hint of banana. Overal just a terrific tasty beer that can be enjoyed by even the biggest beer novice.

Dogfish Head SAHTEA: Ale brewed with Black Chai Tea and Juniper Berries My Opinion: A golden/orange, chai tea color is the first thing that will catch your eye as you pour out this delicious and intriguing ale. The next thing that will highten your scences is the delightful aroma that parades out of the bottle ever so gracefully. The cozy smell of chai tea captures the fall season perfectly, leaving you imagining bright colered leaves slowly changing in the cool breeze. The taste... Smooth. A gentle sweetness greets the tongue as the taste of piney juniper berries quickly follow. This ale says its goodbyes with the delicious taste of the chai, leaving a creamy semi-dry mouthfeel that wraps all these intresting flavors togethor into an ale that im sure dogfish head proudly calls Sahtea! P: A vivacious apricot body housing a multitude of floaters. A nice off white bubbly thin head that has decent retention. Wet bubbly lacing that sloshes the sides but doesn’t stick. S: Cinnamon, chai, vanilla, toasted rye bread, spicy booze and juniper berries. Aroma is a cross between pumpkin pie and a chai latte. T/M: Cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, clove, juniper berries and rye bread create a cornucopia of lavish flavors. Toasted grains, chai, musty wood, dank yeast and boozy fruit follow. The aggressive effervesce leaves a tingly peppered palate. Saison like. O: This reminds me of gulab jamun but with more natural earthy essence and a dialed down syrupy sweetness. Super complex brew that has layers upon layers building an ever evolving flavor profile.

Hazy gold with thin rimming white head; aroma of Belgian yeast, soft subtle fruit and grain; Flava is mild but full mainly of grainy malty and yeasty notes; feels medium and finishes softly sweet but crisp and quenching and notes of grain
