COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A modern update on a 9th century Finnish proto-beer. Brewed with rye, we caramelize the wort with white hot river rocks, then ferment it with a German Weizen yeast. In addition to juniper berries foraged directly from the Finnish country-side we added a sort of tea made with coriander, cardamom, lemon grass, Indian Black Tea, and ramps leaves. The spicing is subtle and balanced and Sahtea is a highly-quaffable, truly-unique brew with a full-mouth feel.

750 ml Bottle. Pours a hazy burnt orange and gold color with substantial off-white foam and particles floating around the glass. Aroma is heavy on the Black Chai Tea, juniper berries and cardamom with a bit of lemon grass in the background. The taste starts out tart and acidic with notes of Chai tea, ginger, lemon, banana and nutmeg along with some berry, green apple and malt flavors. Mouthfeel is moderately creamy with medium-level carbonation and a dry, spiced finish. Overall, an enjoyable spice beer with a nice kick to it.

Pours a clear amber color. Aromas of pine/malts and a touch of citrus/berries. Flavor is a little different. I thought it would be more pine tasting. A little berry flavor and some hop bitterness near the end.

Bottle - good size foamy head, hazy burnt orange color with lots of "floaties" (maybe bad poor?), big fruity/berry aroma and flavor, moderate spice (from the tea I guess), a little different but in a good way overall ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Clear Amber color. $12.99/750ml is pricey versus alternatives in this market. Just not true to original style.

No head, only a smattering of fine bubbles. No lace either. Cloudy orange-amber color. Lots of Caribbean style spice to the nose: all spice, nutmeg, clove, coriander and cinnamon. There’s a pepper aspect to the smell. Less beer and more a spicy soft drink without sugar. Very high carbonation for the level of body. Lots of clove and pepper in the swallow. I love Dogfish’s willingness to try something wild, different and bizarre. And their willingness to put it in front of the general public. I hope they never stop doing this. Sometimes they get hits, sometimes misses. For me, this is one of their greatest misses.
