12 oz bottle. Pours a reddish orange with light white head. Aromas of phenols, green grapes, and green apples. Flavors of a fruit health drink: grapes, gooseberries, and citrus with a little bit of vegetables. Astringent finish.

Transfer from BA review on 6-7-13- Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a reddish hued orange color with a pink tinted head of about 1.5 fingers. The head has a decent level of retention fading to leave a moderate level of lace on the sides of the glass. Smell- The aroma is of a red wine grapiness with some aromas of malt and a moderate amount of citrus hop. Along with the grape aroma so too comes a bit of mustiness as well as a more tannin like smell. Taste – The taste begins with a moderate showing of a red wine like flavor with this flavor growing stronger throughout the taste. Mixed with the wine upfront are some flavors of a bready malt and a bit of caramel. Hop flavors of a mainly citrus nature start coming to the tongue more toward the middle of the taste. They are joined by a light pine hop taste more toward the end. Although there is a presence of both citrus and pine hop, they remain rather light in comparison to the wine flavor which becomes more tannin in flavor at the end. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer was on the average side in terms of thickness with a carbonation level that was rather average as well. A slightly thinner body may have been slightly more appropriate of the wine characteristics making it slightly easier to drink. Overall – Not really my thing. Too much red wine like, not quite enough hop for an IPA and a little confusing tasting. Worth a try, but not one I would go back to on any real occasion.

bottle. I really liked this beer - unique and great flavor. Surprised how much I like this "fruit beer".

12oz bottle. Smells like butt with artificial wine mist. Tastes fake. This beer sucks. Really artificial gross feel to it. Highly unimpressive. Ouch.

"Pours the oddest light purple I’ve ever seen in a beer. Quite the looker. Aroma definitely grape like. Flavor is less hoppy than I’d have thought, though I know 60 isn’t exactly a hop monster to start with. Doesn’t really resemble an iPa at all anymore, which is fine if I just don’t think of it as one. Unique sweetness with just a hint of funk and hops. Well balanced and easy drinking. Glad to have tried this one, and glad it wasn’t a $12 750 :)"

Bottle shared with esp0r september 5th 2014. Red / brown body with a disappearing whitish head. Aroma of artificial fruit candy, earthy hops, wine. Taste has the same artificial feel, with sweet red wine and malt. Towards the end it gets a bit better with grapes and faint piney hops, but overall this didn’t do it for me.

On tap at Cork and Cask. Pours a amber color with white head. Caramel, resiny, hoppy, toast aromas. Caramel, citrus, passion fruit flavors. Not my favorite by Dogfish Head.

A good IPAbut a bit too sour for my tastes. But, it was worth a go... I'm happy I tried it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

THOUGHTS: At the time I had this, I had started to be disappointed by most newer Dogfish Head offerings and didn’t have much hope for this one. But this was very different and very good. Blue Moon might have done a more accessible take on this type of wine beer hybrid and theirs was more balance between wine and beer, but SIxty-One was definitely a beer made more complex with the wine aspects added. Just when I was wondering if IPAs were running out of new things to be done with them. Not too winey for a beer drinker, but maybe too hoppy for a wine drinker. TECHNICAL: Drank 3/22/2013. Bottle. Poured a clear, medium cherry read with an average to large, ever-so-slightly pink head that kept a thin sheet and left excellent lacing. The aroma had slight caramel malt; moderate pine and earthy hops; light citrus hops; dusty yeast; red wine; grape juice; and a hint of vanilla. The initial flavor was slightly sweet and acidic, and lightly bitter; while the finish was moderately sweet and bitter, and lightly acidic with an average to long duration. There was red wine, a little caramel, earth hops, pine hops, citrus hops, grapes, musty yeast, a little pear, and grape skins. The light to moderate body was dry with fizzy carbonation and a dry and moderately astringent finish.

12 oz bottle. Pours a copper/reddish colour with medium pinkish head. Aroma is fruits, hops. Taste is same. Bit weird...
