Stouts III Tasting. Thanks Jack! Clear red beer, tidy pale pink head! Nose of something candy. Light dry palate. Little lactose and somewhat seltzer minerals. Skewed candy fruits, not that sweet. Bitterish bretty hop. Light fruit. Crisp minerally dry finish. Bitter linger. Highly unusual beer but I would expect no less of this cutting edge brewer.

The amber color is cloudy and has a beautiful red hue; the head has a short retention. The aroma is hardly interesting (very light fruit and white sugar), a bit smelly (stale water). Off-dry although soft mouthfeel; there is some grape substance, and a light woody bitterness in the end, while the beer is missing: it seems a bit salty.
Not pleasant.

Bottle from GBBF 2014 and drunk at home. Clear dark red beer, lasting pink tinged white lasting head. Bready cherry strawberry aroma. Its a bit bizarre in the mouth. The syrah comes through as a strawberry blackcurranty thing. Its certainly hoppy too. Lots of hoppy bitterness on the finish. Not entirely sure the whole thing works. The fruit is good. The hops are good. Not sure you should just jam the two things together. Yes some Rhone red wine aroma. Then this IPA red wine flavour. So you get some sweet red wine and some bitter hoppy American IPA. Not sure its entirely harmonious or make for good bedfellows. Certainly interesting. Bit of chalk flavour that Ive had from some red wine infused beers in the past. Its ok, some good flavours, but overall I am not sure it works.

On tap at the brewpub. Its a clear amber colored beer with a small beige head. Its rather malty on the nose, with pale malts, caramel, bread and a good hoppy touch. Full body and a soft carbonation. Dry. Bread, caramel, pine cones, resins and some citrus peel in the flavor, lasting for a good while. A bit malty for my linings, but sure nice. 150621

Nose has some lightly dank hops, a bit of grape and strawberry. Light to medium sweet flavor, some lightly bitter berries, hints of bread, hint of pine. Light to medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Mild dank bitter finish, grape skins, dry berries, fine dirt. Decent.
