4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 oobawa (626) - South Carolina, USA - MAY 8, 2011Big hops, big malt, big alcohol, big ass IPA. This beer practically oozes hop resin, juicy and fruity yet with a manageable bitterness that never overtakes the brew. The malts are thick and grainy, sweet with a caramel undertone that gives Squall a marmalade slant. The booze shows up on the finish, mingling with the moderate IBUs that close out the brew, but never reaches anything close to a liquor burn. Plus, this beer looks much more expensive than it is.

Had this a few months ago. Assuming the bottle was pretty old, i dont think it was made in quite some time. Not all that impressed, tasted like 90 min past its prime.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 DiarmaidBHK (2266) - Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 5, 2013
Bottled in 2011. Just opened now. I’m surprised how well this has held up. Pours dark orange with a couple of inches of khaki foam. By this point there’s not a lot of aroma here. Lots of malt on the tongue with a bit of sweetness. Hides it’s alcohol, very well. A bit of bitterness on the finish to clean things up. I wish I had this one fresher, but it’s still a solid beer.

Tasted in 2010 (backlog). Gold with a small off-white head. Aroma is of citrus, caramel, light grass. Taste is of citrus and grass.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 ICEatALAMO (524) - Troy, Michigan, USA - DEC 28, 2012
bottle.. Pour is very hazy bright orange. The aroma is full of hops. The taste is rather mild up front and finishes soft. Somewhat suprising for the amount of hops in this beer. The taste has a lot going on, very complex. Not much bitterness. Overall a quality ipa.
3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 budznsudz (318) - Audubon, New Jersey, USA - NOV 21, 2012
2010 bottle poured into a dogfish pint glass. Pours light rust with a quickly dissipating head. Aroma is pungent malt and rich fruity hops. The taste is incredibly earthy with the malt and hops coming together in astringent harmony. Very interesting ipa and ages fairly well.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 GarrettB (787) - La Jolla, California, USA - OCT 11, 2012
June 11th, 2010 - Every so often, there comes along an IPA that not only breaks the mold, but shatters it, then urinates on the pieces. I count the Dogfish Head Squall IPA amongst these. A thin, mostly loose and wobbly head and a rich, deep amber body conceal a sensory feast. Sweet, puffy cotton candy, fresh strawberries, slithering strands of caramel and wet, rich malts define the inviting aroma. The flavor is lighter, almost imperceptible at first, but it warms up to itself. A medium-light palate offers a blend of alcohol, rye, honey and some of that blended, dessert sweetness from the aroma. It’s an addictive brew, and I’d caution future drinkers from quaffing the thing too quickly, but to rather savor it. It’s a treat, and tastes as such, and is in a category of IPAs that tend to suit those of us who don’t harbor dreams of suckling on a raw hops cone one day.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 beerandbeyond (452) - ISRAEL - SEP 20, 2012
Bottle sample.
Light copper color, very nice head.
Relatively mellow hoppy aroma, more to the sweet side.
Flavors of honey and butter. Lacks bitterness.
A bit oily and alcoholic, but drinkable.
Had to be an old bottle.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 tmongoose (661) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - AUG 16, 2012
pint 9 bottle shared with no one..pours out hazy orange color with minimal white head that disappears quickly. some minor lacing on the glass. the aroma of citrus and orange. has a stronger than normal sweet aroma. the flavor is really intense of hops and citrus and orange. this beer has aged for awhile so i am thinking the bitterness would be stronger. the i do like the flavor of this alot.
4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 Brewticular (86) - - AUG 12, 2012
This was better the first time I had it a couple of years ago. Still an excellent beer but I feel the hops have faded over time and as a result the alcohol bite is a little more prevalent. I have one more bottle left in my cellar and will leave it there for another time.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 TheBrewSherpa (269) - Belvidere, New Jersey, USA - AUG 11, 2012
Poured from a 750ml bottle into a Spiegelau glass.
A: Pours a cloudy copper-orange with a finger of slightly off-white head that slowly fades leaving behind some nice lace. Some fruity notes fade in and out
S: Sweet caramel notes with biscuit malt and oak aromas. Tropical fruit hop notes with a faint alcohol aroma.
T: Very malt heavy for an IPA, maybe even overwhelming. The complexity of the hop profile gets lost in the beer’s taste as the malts dominate.
M: Medium to full bodied with a decent amount of carbonation. It’s very smooth with a warming alcohol bite on the finish.
O: In the end the aroma is the best aspect of this beer. It’s a major booze bomb, perhaps a few years of aging will smooth this out a bit. If only I can leave it alone for a few years..... /wink
