Working with our archeologist friend Dr. Pat McGovern, this beer was created to incorporate the ancient ingredients and techniques described in Egyptian hieroglyphics. It was brewed to 11.4Plato with Emmer (an ancient form of wheat) and loaves of hearth baked bread and flavored with dom-palm fruit, chamomile, and zatar. Fermentation was carried out by a native Egyptian saccharomyces yeast strain captured by Sam and Floris during a recent trip to Egypt. ABV went from 5 to 4.5%.

Aroma, honey, and fruit in the aroma. Flavor is sweet with fruit and cinnamon, with more of the same in the finish. Interesting concept, but really nothing special.

Pours hazy gold with a white head. Aroma is earthy and lots of chamomile. Taste is spicy with some sweet undertones, very interesting as it is almost tangy. Light bodied with a slick texture. Interesting, very strong on the chamomile.

25.8 oz bottle - pours goldish-orange with diminishing medium white head. Strong sweet fruit aromas on the nose, plums, apricots, and bready yeasty notes. Little bit of clove. Sweet malt. Medium-full bodied. Definitely strangish. Not a returner.

Was super excited to find this beer in the summer of 2012 while on vacation in Virginia. Split the 750ml bottle with friends. Very different brew, but that’s what the boys at DFH do.

750ml bottle pours a clear gold with small white head. Wheat aroma. A bit of a fruit and wheat taste.

Sample at craft.. Not my thing at all. Pours yellow with a small white head that quickly dissipates. The aroma has some honey notes but not much action. The taste is really light with no discernable direction. A really boring brew.

Tasted on 5/11/13 from a capped 750mL bottle. Pours clear copper orange with a very thick, fizzy white head that recedes quickly to thin lace. It almost looks like a sparkling wine with tiny bubbles continuing to quickly rush to the top. The nose is nutty and interesting, with some toasted hazelnut, almond, honey, and just a touch of green bitterness. The flavor is a touch sweeter than expected with the honey and varied nuttiness, but no real perceivable bitterness. The body is light with almost sparkling carbonation and a medium nutty almond finish.
