2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
POPE, Philadelphia tap ($8): Pours golden with a whitish head. Aroma is lightly honey, slightly boozy, and pale malt. Taste is underwhelming. I didn’t really get any strong cocoa flavors. Instead, I got a pretty simple, slightly sweet ale with boozy notes. Not bad, but not impressed.

Bottled sample from Specks in San Antonio. Another very unique offering from Dogfish Head. Pours murky gold with minimal head. Notes of chocolate with a hint of spice. Very drinkable.

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
bottle. Golden with one finger head. Light body with mild honey flavor. Just a little spice from the peppers and some chocolate flavor as well. There’s a little booze in there as well, but not bad.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft. Pours hazy dark gold with a thin white head and no lacing. Tastes somewhat like cider, slightly sweet, slightly sour, like bitter chocolate, bready, dry feel, lightly spiced finish. Medium body and low carbonation. Smells like sour fruits, cherries, apples, wheat, malt.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Hazy gold with a thin white cap. The aroma smells of herbal honey and nutty sweet pale grains with a little alcohol kick. The flavor is a bit boozy sharp with some alcohol esters mixed with what’s mostly a pale grain body. Honey throughout and grassy hop notes playing lightly in the finish. A wee peppery heat too. But ultimately overpowered by that alcohol note throughout.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a cloudy dark straw color, with minimal whitish head. Light aroma of chocolate and malt. Taste is of chocolate, and the alcohol taste is there too. Interesting and unique brew: I didn’t think there was a chocolate flavor there at first because it doesn’t ’look’ like there is. However, this is a nice, fairly drinkable brew. Thumbs up form me.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bomber to glass mug. Pours a cloudy yellow, with a white head that dissipates quick. Nice lacing. The honey flavor is prominent, but not a lot of nose. I can’t tell at all that any cocoa was used in this. Different.
