COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer is based on chemical analysis of pottery fragments found in Honduras which revealed the earliest known alcoholic chocolate drink used by early civilization to toast special occasions. the discovery of this beverage pushed back the earliest use of cocoa for human consumption more than 500 years to 1200 BC. As per the analysis, Dogfish head’s Theobroma (food of the gods) is brewed with Aztec cocoa powder and cocoa nibs, honey, chilies, and annatto (fragrant tree seeds). Theobroma is 9% ABV and will be available in Champagne bottles by late spring 2008.

Really light golden pour which was surprising, and the aroma is cocoa and some spice. Flavor is progressive...sweet, then cocoa, then chile. Interesting but hard to drink a lot of.

Dirty golden amber color. Zero head or lace. Honey, cacao nibs, other spices on the nose. More chocolatey than expected start to finish. Sweet and malty with a touch of spice. Peppers show up at the end, lingering with mild heat in my throat. A solid brew from DFH, though not something I'd seek out.

Bottle from App Vintner - aged 2 years - pours a muddy murky amber with little head. Aroma has some spice, chocolate, malt, and some sweetness. Taste is mild, not as spicy hot as I was thinking. Maybe I aged it too long. Not as amazing as I was expecting, but still solid.

Bottle from Appalachian Vintner. Aged 2 years. Perhaps that was a mistake. Pours a turgid brown with a thin head. Not getting a ton on the nose. Slight notes of cocoa on the tongue. A little bit of heat on the finish. Probably would have been better sooner.

Draft at railroad st bar. Pours clear copper with a small white head. The aroma almost reminds me of a macro lager with some corn and funk. The taste is honey and then some sweet corn. This is interesting.

750ml bottle. Pours a hazy orange copper color with a large off white head. Aroma is a little sweet, with some chilies. Taste is some cocoa, honey, and spiciness from the chilies.

orange amber color, aroma of cocoa, honey, oranges, same flavors, chillies come through on the finish but with almost no spice, very interesting brew, and quite enjoyable

UPDATED: MAR 11, 2013 Enjoyable ale style, with serious complexity. Cloudy orange pour from bomber bottle, this beer is starts with notes on chocolate that fades to the end. Citrus (probably from the ancho) type flavor that sips softly to the end.

Has sediments, no head. Has a vegetal or pepper aroma, kitchen spices and a cocoa or baked bread note. On the palate I get chocolate, fruit cake and a sweet juicy flavour. Interesting brew but hard to describe.

Christmas gift. Very hazy medium gold/orange beer with a cascade of bubbles. Head is a sixteenth of an inch at most and white. Powdery nose (perhaps the cocoa). Honey and vanilla mix to create a somewhat citrus hop scent. Average to low carbonation. Tastes like an ale with flat cocoa mixed in, and some honey flavor. Not very bubbly. Finish has a fairly warm, spicy feel (chilies?) that was somewhat short, and had a roasty sweet chilie/honey flavor quality.
