| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Oct 19, 2009 750 bottle- pours a cloudy golden with a head that disappears almost immediately. Tastes of spice, light orange peel, and no alcohol, considering 9%- trouble. I enjoyed this beer, just not as much as I thought. This beer got nothing but better as it warmed, I gave this a 3.6 to begin with, but now it deserves better. brewolf (51), Washington, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 13, 2009 Nose of candied papaya, green peppers, and unsweetened cocoa. Quite interesting, and I applaud Dogfish Head for their adventurous spirit. Appearance is actually lacking in aesthetics due to the piss-yellow pour with a very minimal head. Flavor reveals the sweetness of the candied papaya, and moves through to a marshmallowy cocoa finish with a nice chile taste and bite. I certainly would not pick this up on a regular basis, but I am more than happy to support their effort towards new and unique brews. If they come up with it, I will support them and try it ... with pleasure. brentfeesh (1042), Gadsden, Alabama, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 12, 2009 Bottle enjoyed with Jen during our visit to Barnsley Gardens/Farms. Good looking brew. We both agreed that the aroma was nicely sweet with honey and chocolate which seemed a little odd give the generally light color of the beer. As for the flavor, Jen did not much care for it and while I thought it was interesting, I don’t think I’d have it again. All the elements discussed on the bottle are there to a degree. I thought I got some honey, very light coco, and there was certainly a hint of chille peppers to the finish. However, after the initial flavors started kicking in the blend became a bit odd to me and the finish was not particularly enjoyable. Don’t know if that was the peppers or the type of yeast they used. In any event, and interesting experiment. Keep ‘em coming and I’ll keep trying them. At least once anyway. scoth (295), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 9, 2009 Pours clear amber, with a medium white quickly-dissipating head, some lacing. Aromas of milk chocolate, biscuit, grass, honey, and figs. Full body, velvety, slightly crisp. Big chewy malts, warming, with bread and chocolate, some subtle grape and honey notes, and grass and citrus in the finish. There may be a lingering spiciness from the chilies after the first half glass, but it’s hard to be sure. rudolf (1789), Buffalo, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 3, 2009 Tap @ Cole’s Dogfish Fest. Copper body, thin white head. Nose is faintly Flemish red - not in acid but in malt character, along with cocoa & cherries. Flavor is cocoa, dusty caramel malts, a bit of spice comes out over time, lodging itself in the back of my throat. More cocoa & malty sweetness in the finish. ericandersnavy (1172), crossroads, Texas, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 2, 2009 bottle thanks to FooFaa from BA. poured a goldish orange with a white head that dissipates. aroma has a bunch going on with orange, ginger, cinnamon, honey, and i think a touch of vanilla. flavor was orange, cinnamon, honey, alcohol, and several other spices. body was heavy with low-medium carbonation. not bad at all, but i wonder if it tasted like this 4,000 years ago. phaleslu (592), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Sep 30, 2009 22 oz. bottle from Ludlow Wines. I was eagerly anticipating this one, and like Shawn, I was pretty disappointed- albeit not quite to that degree. Pours a slightly cloudy orange-gold with a medium off-white head. Aroma of cocoa, spices, grape juice, honey, floral notes, and sugar. "Mess" is the best word to describe the flavor and palate of this one, with such a disorienting mixture of sweet, spicy, and medicinal notes. No balance whatsoever. Medium carbonation and light-medium bodied. Confusing, as the results can’t match the ambition. shawnm213 (1039), South Bend, Indiana, USA
