COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer is based on chemical analysis of pottery fragments found in Honduras which revealed the earliest known alcoholic chocolate drink used by early civilization to toast special occasions. the discovery of this beverage pushed back the earliest use of cocoa for human consumption more than 500 years to 1200 BC. As per the analysis, Dogfish head’s Theobroma (food of the gods) is brewed with Aztec cocoa powder and cocoa nibs, honey, chilies, and annatto (fragrant tree seeds). Theobroma is 9% ABV and will be available in Champagne bottles by late spring 2008.

Pores a light copper colour with a big white head that dies down to nothing. No lace. Nose of caramel malt, booze, bit of wood. Tastes a bit of alcohol burn, that lingers, which makes me think its the pepper. Caramel too.

Tap at APEX, PDX, 26/05/13. Lightly hazed golden with a thin white head. Nose is honey, light spice, grain, cereals, straw, touch of citrus. Taste comprises honey, grain, grass, touch of sugar. Full end of medium bodied, fine carbonation, sweet finish with herbal notes. Ok for the experiment it is but wouldn’t look to revisit!

NOT A Fan. I love Dogfish Head but this beer is just not my style. It pours a nice amber with a small beige cap. The aroma is a pungent malt aroma. Flavor is very strange. Ancho chilies, cacao nibs... It fits the description... However, the taste is awful. Maybe just not for me? I would pass. It's an expensive gamble. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle share. Slightly hazy gold. Aroma is honey and grains. Taste is so much honey. Grain resin. Spicy burn in the throat after.

I tried a sample of this, and I was less than enamored of it. I can taste the cocoa and chiles, but I found they created a strange taste which I didn’t particularly care for.

Strong alcohol aroma and initial taste. This is not as apparent once the beer warms up a bit. Then moves to a dark chocolate and chili powder end am finish. Heat lingers in your throat. States honey, but I state more caramel ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Caramel, toffee, cocoa, vanilla, and nutty aromas. Clear orange-gold with a moderately lasting, white head. Sweet, nutty malts, and some chili spice. Light-medium body, average carbonation, and finishes with a lingering spiciness.

Dark malty dry grapey nutty scent. Golden orange body. Dry roasty malt, with spicy grape finish. Dry and doughy on the palate. Ok

Honey aroma. Strong chocolate nibs, heat of chilies, honey taste. Kind of gimmicky but one of my very top picks.
