COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer is based on chemical analysis of pottery fragments found in Honduras which revealed the earliest known alcoholic chocolate drink used by early civilization to toast special occasions. the discovery of this beverage pushed back the earliest use of cocoa for human consumption more than 500 years to 1200 BC. As per the analysis, Dogfish head’s Theobroma (food of the gods) is brewed with Aztec cocoa powder and cocoa nibs, honey, chilies, and annatto (fragrant tree seeds). Theobroma is 9% ABV and will be available in Champagne bottles by late spring 2008.

I poured from a bomber into a pint glass. The appearance was very nice. It is a bronzed orange color; which was very unexpected and it had a nice 1/2-3/4" head with nice lacing. I loved the smell. It had a very spicy smell. I could smell the chilies. The chilies were also very apparent on first taste. At first I wasn't sure I liked the chili flavor but the subtle chocolate on the back end made it very nice. The spiciness also added to the mouthfeel of the beer. The tight carbonation with the spice of the chilies gave it a very zingy feel on the tongue which was surprising. Overall I think this beer was a big surprise from the pour to the finish, but it was a surprise I enjoyed. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Old rating. Cloudy orange color. Grainy with honey, spices, orange peel, maybe a small but if chocolate. Kind of bubbly and weird. Just okay.

A cousin of Midas Touch. Despite the cocoa and spices, the initial aroma is grapes and the fruity odors dominate the entire tasting experience. This is a smooth, tasty fruity beer, but not quite as complex as the ingredients might suggest. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft. Colored deep orange and hazed to opacity. The silky off-white head has decent retention. Aroma is sweet: golden raisins, honey, a bit of cocoa, a soft nuttiness in the background. The flavor is less sugary and has more alcohol character, starting off with crackers and orange blossom honey before moving into gentle nuttiness, raisins and just a teeny bit of pepper heat. I was expecting more cocoa, and its presence would bump this up a few points in the flavor department.

Bottle. Nice beer, cloudy somewhat orange-ish. Doesn’t really taste like a lot of the things mentioned on the label, cocoa and whatnot. Tastes kinda sweet, heavy on honey, maybe a little spice. Very nice.

Poured from bomber 3-7-15. Weak white head, thin line on rim & splotches in center. Taste of honey, grain. Smooth fairly plain but good body. Cloudy light orange with sediment. 7.9bd 7.5bry

It didn?t taste bad but wasn?t exactly what I expected the peppers were slightly noticeable but the chocolate wasn?t on the forefront at all. Not sure if I got an old bottle or something. It was a cool concept but may have needed a bit more of the ingredients listed to make an impact. It tasted good but wasn’t what I’d imagined

@Roland’s post Mondiale tasting; woody, earthy champagne nose, some dark honey, fizzy, too fizzy mouthfeel, some turkish delight/melted down Toblerone chocolate in taste. Interesting, but less complex than expected.

At a tasting, thanks Tom L, big bubbly but quickly dissapearing head, lively carbonation, dirty honey yellow color, aroma of honey with hints of wood and bread, grainy flavor with hints of chillie, very light bitterness. Not too good.

Clear gold pour, little head. Aroma is mild, chocolate, spice and pepper. Taste is dry spice, pepper, heat, chocolate and a touch of honey. Very complex layering and smooth. Overall interesting and good.
