2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
NOT A Fan. I love Dogfish Head but this beer is just not my style. It pours a nice amber with a small beige cap. The aroma is a pungent malt aroma. Flavor is very strange. Ancho chilies, cacao nibs... It fits the description... However, the taste is awful. Maybe just not for me? I would pass. It's an expensive gamble.

750 ml bottle. Honey gold color. Brief white head. Fragrant malt aroma has notes of cocoa and spicy hops. Flavor touches on cocoa and subtle chili heat. Sweet malt is accented by the honey. There is an ever present warmth from the chili peppers and alcohol. There are complex flavors at play. Citrus, nuts, earthiness and cocoa. Certainly, this is a unique beer. Noticeable alcohol is blurred by the chili heat.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Big bottle pour@5e Mondial de la Bière, Mulhouse FR. Fragrant and inviting nose of wild honey, white chocolate, vanilla. Smooth taste of white grapes, white wine and vanilla. Hard to pin down stone/pit fruit exotics meandering about in between. Oily, luscious and smooth: surprisingly balanced - for an archeological concoction reconstructed from pottery fragments.

First, I used this to marinate a steak. Amazing cocoa taste to the steak. Gave it a nice flavor and now to the beer itself. Poured to a dark brown body with a nice sweet honey taste and cocoa nibs. Has a sweet smell and is a solid beer that was balance for me

This is an amazing beer. The coco nibs are so pungent and delicious in this beer it almost over shells then chili but, right at the end you taste the nice spice and earthy tones.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a hazy yellow with a quick-fading white foam head. Aroma is largely honey and a bite of alcohol. Taste is dominated by honey, with traces of cocoa, fruit, and some chili heat, which provides a touch of bitterness as well. Has a large combination of flavors, but unfortunately they all come off a bit too subtle.

Drank out of a pint. I can not put my finger on the aromas. Nice golden brown color, a white lacey head. Delicious, usually not a fan of Dogfish Head’s brews. But this beer is amazing, I was hoping for little more chile flavor.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
deep amber color. Very thin head. Malty nose with lots of cacao, chillis and hints of marmalade. Very low carbonation and this beer has integrated well over five years. Slightly sweet, oranges and chocolate dominate mouth but well rounded and slight hint of pepper. Warming cacao and chilli finish. Very nice and aged well. Nice

Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice glass
Appearance – Served a golden amber colored brew with a small white head. The head faded fast to give only a lighter amount of lacing.
Smell – The aroma was bready with some notes of a yeasty smell. With the strong bread aroma were notes of chili and a bit of honey. While it is a cocoa brewed beer, I did not detect much in the nose at all. While not much cocoa, it was a nice aroma none the less
Taste – The bready flavor with some sweeter fruit and honey flavors start out in the taste. A lighter cocoa and yeasty taste come quickly to the taste, but never grow very strong. The bready flavor remains relatively constant throughout, but the cocoa and fruit start to fade more toward the end when some chili spiciness as well as a lighter herbal tastes come to the tongue. In the end a dry and spicy crisp flavor are left to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer was on the just above average side in terms of creaminess with a carbonation level that was just below average. The light enhancement of creaminess was nice for the lighter cocoa, chili and honey flavors but not too heavy to take away from the great drinkability that the slightly lower then average carbonation level provides.
Overall – This was a very tasty beer with nice flavor transitions a great flavor profile and a good easy drinking feel. Well worth a try.
