COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer is based on chemical analysis of pottery fragments found in Honduras which revealed the earliest known alcoholic chocolate drink used by early civilization to toast special occasions. the discovery of this beverage pushed back the earliest use of cocoa for human consumption more than 500 years to 1200 BC. As per the analysis, Dogfish head’s Theobroma (food of the gods) is brewed with Aztec cocoa powder and cocoa nibs, honey, chilies, and annatto (fragrant tree seeds). Theobroma is 9% ABV and will be available in Champagne bottles by late spring 2008.

This would be a pretty neat beer if it weren’t for the distracting alcohol warmth. I like the bitter cocoa & pepper elements but why the heck can’t DFH make one of these creative beers that isn’t over 8%?

Draft. Cloudy light brown pour with a minimal head. Watered down creamy milk chocolate with some mild hot chili notes at the finish. Pepper bite builds as you drink it. Some chai tea flavors as well with some cinnamon. Some raw MaltyNot uninteresting but regardless of its origins barely registers as beer. Certainly worth trying though!

Bomber. Pours dark hazy orange with thin head. Aroma is chocolate and yeast. Flavor is cocoa, yeast/funk, and honey. Tastes like a chocolate saison. Interesting, but not my thing.

This beer is a deep amber-gold color with a medium thin white head that diminishes steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of cocoa, malt and ginger. Medium body with flavors of chocolate malt, honey and subtle head from the chilies. The finish is sweet up front with a touch of spice left behind. Decent overall.

Pours a murky amber. Smell is intense on the roasty sweets, honey and a linger of chocolate. Taste is mostly honey, but a bit of hops. It’s decent, but wish it was more balanced.

Not bad but not good. Slightly spicy floral with no notes of chocolate or chilies at all. Tastes like a messy golden ale. Man these ancient ales are not good.

This tastes just chateau jiahu. Less grape juice flavors. Another fucking disaster

Bottle. Pours a hazy light orange color with a small white airy head. Nose is light chocolate, muffins, bread, cake. Palate is stingy with smooth finish and a slick feel on the tongue. Light spice heat and a light alcohol note. Flavors of pepper, chocolate, light citrus, spices.
