2.1 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 pleasesir (13) - Brooklyn, USA - JAN 6, 2009
UPDATED: JAN 16, 2009 New Years Eve, 2009. Loose white head, copper/orange colour proving that at least they remembered to put the annatto in there! First whiff was of a cheap malt liquor, but as the head dissappeared it turned a little sweeter maybe a little toffee/cocoa. Starts lager-like sort of Oktoberfestish. Nice alcohol warmth but with a slight (burnt plastic?) aftertaste. In my second glass I tried to stir up the sediment to wring some of the labels stated characteristics out, there is none, too bad that was my last ditch effort. It is what it is, maybe there is something wrong with me? but still looking for a little choc. chili, anything! No, just that persistent, acrid burnt bitterness. I can’t believe I looked at this thing up on my shelf everyday for three months, the most disappointing beer by Dogfish I’ve ever had (esp. @ $15 a bottle)Oh well, maybe the Mayans were just less interesting than we’d hoped. Excuse me while I go sacrifice a Racer 5 for the cause...
3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 NikkTwist (172) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 27, 2012
Draft. Cloudy light brown pour with a minimal head. Watered down creamy milk chocolate with some mild hot chili notes at the finish. Pepper bite builds as you drink it. Some chai tea flavors as well with some cinnamon. Some raw MaltyNot uninteresting but regardless of its origins barely registers as beer. Certainly worth trying though!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Dogbrick (4837) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - MAY 16, 2012
This beer is a deep amber-gold color with a medium thin white head that diminishes steadily. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of cocoa, malt and ginger. Medium body with flavors of chocolate malt, honey and subtle head from the chilies. The finish is sweet up front with a touch of spice left behind. Decent overall.

3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 jbruner (138) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - MAY 1, 2012
Pours a murky amber. Smell is intense on the roasty sweets, honey and a linger of chocolate. Taste is mostly honey, but a bit of hops. It’s decent, but wish it was more balanced.
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Reynolds314 (760) - Connecticut, USA - APR 10, 2012
Not bad but not good. Slightly spicy floral with no notes of chocolate or chilies at all. Tastes like a messy golden ale. Man these ancient ales are not good.
