Tweason’ale is a beer we brewed on the cusp of summer. It is a gluten-free sorghum based beer brewed with fresh strawberries from our friends at Fifer Orchards near Dover, Delaware. For the sorghum, we sourced a dark, sweet, syrup with notes of molasses and pit-fruit. We also used a a dark buckwheat honey with a beautiful hay-like, earthy-malty thing that we felt added the final touch to this Tweason’ale recipe.

Pretty thin and disappointing. Clear gold pour with slight red. Smells like strawberry soda. Taste was watery yet cloying artificial strawberry. Where's my gluten?

12 oz. bottle. Appearance: finger of white head that is soapy and does not last, no lacing really, golden, clear. Aroma: strawberry, light tartness on the nose, malty, caramel. Palate: light body, average to lively carbonation, light alcohol thinness, dry. Taste: sweet to light tartness, with light bitterness. Overall, some good qualities, but overall is nothing special.

Poor flavor in this dogfish. I can’t believe that this brew came from dogfish.

Very fruity and tangy. The strawberries make a big impact, particularly on the nose. Not much depth middle and back palate as a pale lager structure kicks in. Still, good effort for a gluten free beer.

Draft (sample) - Slight tart taste, can smell and taste the strawberries on this one. For being gluten-free it still tastes like a beer I expect from Dogfish.

Gf picked this one up in a mixer sixer. The best thing about this beer is the appearance, deep golden color, no head, endless carbonation bubbling to the top. Aroma of copper, berry, and vinegar. Hints of metal, sour mash, unripe berries. Resembles a poor white wine. This will be my last.

Taster at the brewery. Light golden with thin white head. Light fruit in the nose seems like a combo of light beer and strawberry soda... Not bad for gluten free...

A sweet strawberry and slight tart aroma come from this crystal clear orabde brew with no head. It is light bodied crisp and tart with a sweet aftertaste. Not bad for a sour ale.

I know that I’m departing from most other reviewers in giving this beer a very good rating, but I think that it deserves the good rating if, and only if, you approach the beer as if it’s not beer but some kind of hybrid beverage. There’s little to no head and lacing; it’s highly carbonated; it pours a grapefruit orange; it smells sweet and citrusy; and it tastes like honey, strawberries, and tropical fruit. This makes for kind of an awful beer, but it makes for a wonderful brunch cocktail-like drink. If you don’t think of this as beer, you’ll like it. Otherwise, it really is a rotten beer.

bottle - Pours clear gold with a small white head. It smells of honey and strawberries. The flavor is sweet with honey, berries, and sugar. It has a thin body and is underwhelming. Sadly I still have to recommend wine to the gluten intolerant though this is better than most gluten free beers.
