COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The idea for this beer germinated way back in 2003 when the three guys (Sam from Dogfish, Greg from Stone and Bill from Victory) formed the BUFF alliance (Brewers United for Freedom of Flavor) - a noble endeavor with the goal to highlight the passion and camaraderie of the American craft brew movement.
So, BUFF didnít really do anything (beyond talk a lot of talk) until 2010 when the three brewers finally got together to jointly brew at beer at the Stone Brewery. Saison du BUFF will first be brewed at Stone and then replicated at each of the other two breweries - same recipe, same ingredients, three different breweries throughout 2010.
Plans call for Saison du BUFF to be a 6% alc/vol Saison brewed with parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme. This beer will be brewed three times, once at each brewery using the same recipe. The expected release dates for each brew are as follows:

Bottle. Pours hazy yellow with a nice white somewhat lasting frothy head that leaves no lace. Aroma of fresh sage, lemon and parsley. Itís like drinking a fresh garden salad with overtones of malt. Quite different than the usual and nicely refreshing. A bit too much carbonation.

Pours a yellow color with a foamy white head. Aroma is lemon and spices, such as Rosemary, thyme, and parsley. Flavor is the same. Comes off sweet and lightly bitter. Much better than I imagined. I enjoyed this very much.

Cloudy yellow pour with small white head. Aroma of citrus, pepper, herbal notes, hops. Taste of citrus, peppery dryness, herbal notes and hops. Light bodied, higher carbonation, dry finish.

12 ounce bottle into signature tulip glass, bottled on 6/10/2014. Pours fairly hazy deep golden color with a 1 finger dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big lemon, pear, white grape, pepper, clove, herbal, floral, grass, cracker, bread, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast, herbal spicing, and pale malt notes; with good strength. Taste of lemon, pear, white grape, pepper, clove, herbal, floral, grass, cracker, bread, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Fair amount of earthy yeast spice/herbal spice flavors on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, pear, white grape, pepper, clove, herbal, floral, grass, cracker, bread, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity and balance of fruity/earthy yeast, herbal spicing, and pale malt flavors; with a great malt/yeast/spice balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, and slightly bready mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent herbal spiced saison. All around great complexity and balance of fruity/earthy yeast, herbal spicing, and pale malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

12 oz bottle. Pours hazy golden with tall, long lasting, fluffy white head and nice lacing. Aroma is of funky yeast, bready malt, ripe pears, spices and some herbal hops. Body is medium and crisp. Herbs, spices, funky yeast, bready malt and ripe fruit fill the mouth. Finish is long and spicy. Interesting brew, but too much herbs for me.

Hazy gold pour with off white head. Aroma smells like my spice drawer. Taste follows nose Sith a bit of funk. Love the concept. Love the aroma. To my tongue, this flavour is not supposed to be liquid. Kind of tastes like someone took a decent saison and spilled an Italian blended spice packet in it. It just did not come together for me. Still a better than average option.

Pours a clear gold, slightly hazy, thick white head. Lemon, honey, herbs. An acidic, herbal taste, lots of lemon zest and a touch of grapefruit. Decent saison.

Bottle. Slightly hazy golden pour with a white head. Very herbal nose. Each herb really compliments the others. Wonderful blend of rosemary, thyme, sage, and parsley balanced with funky saison notes. Flavor is similar. Very drinkable. I really enjoyed this.

12 oz bottle, purchased because it wasnít too expensive and it said "saison" in the name. Pours hazy gold with creamy white head. Great lacing. Aroma: botanical -- sage, thyme, menthol throat lozenge, juniper berries. Really overpoweringly herbal. Taste: citrus, herbal, dry; less intense than nose. Short, dry, lightly bitter finish. Zesty. Lively carbonation, medium- body. Overall: Iím not big on overpoweringly herbal saisons, but this one grew on me some over ounces 4-8. Of course, after that it reasserted itself as overpoweringly herbal and unpleasant, but Iíll focus on the positive because thatís just the kind of guy I am.
