COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The idea for this beer germinated way back in 2003 when the three guys (Sam from Dogfish, Greg from Stone and Bill from Victory) formed the BUFF alliance (Brewers United for Freedom of Flavor) - a noble endeavor with the goal to highlight the passion and camaraderie of the American craft brew movement.
So, BUFF didn’t really do anything (beyond talk a lot of talk) until 2010 when the three brewers finally got together to jointly brew at beer at the Stone Brewery. Saison du BUFF will first be brewed at Stone and then replicated at each of the other two breweries - same recipe, same ingredients, three different breweries throughout 2010.
Plans call for Saison du BUFF to be a 6% alc/vol Saison brewed with parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme. This beer will be brewed three times, once at each brewery using the same recipe. The expected release dates for each brew are as follows:

I poured it from the bottle into a pint glass. It pours golden with a nice white head and lacing. The aroma was herbal, earthy, and citrus. The taste was lemon, coriander, herbs, and hops. There was nice carbonation. The subtle sweetness was balanced nicely with the bitterness. This was tasty and refreshing.

Pours a pale gold with a light white head. A sweet citrus, pine, wheat, yeast, and spices. A sweet citrus hop, fruit, and pine taste with heavy wheat, yeast and grains.

12 oz bottle picked up at Elevated for March Madness consumption. Commonshawn and samadouche in the house. Much debate on which version we should rate but settled on this variety based on order of brewery collaborators and ABV. Light golden appearance with hints of orange. Good froth with quick dissipation. Aroma of herbs dominate the nose with an earthy/grassy quality. Taste has all the elements of a traditional saison with coriander and spices coming to the forefront. Little bit of citrus and grassy characteristic. Mouthfeel has a good tangy bite to it. Feels like a very professional effort. Kind of like they put too many herbs into the equation and the end result is strange. I’ll probably rebuff the opportunity to try this more than once.

12oz bottle from elevated with commonmac during March madness. Dark gold with small white head. Weird smell of beef stick. Must be the herbs. Oily and bitter. Atypical beer herbs throughout. Felt like I was drinking a roast. Pretty bitter for a saison. Kinda weird. Didn’t really like it.

Barreras (1563) - Diamond Bar, California, USA - MAR 7, 2016
Pours a golden yellow color with a light lemon peel aroma. Taste is lightly grassy, with a sage aftertaste. Easy drinking and dry after the swallow. Some hay and citrus flavor throughout. A little underwhelming in complexity but refreshing nonetheless.

12 oz 2012 bottle served in a lager glass. Pours a yellow-gold color, lightly hazy, and with a huge creamy white head that goes over the top of the glass despite a rather gentle half-pour. Appears to have very fine, natural carbonation. Aroma: funky, yeasty, hoppy, grassy, herbal aroma. Taste is similar but even more herbal. with traces of the herb additives. Lightly tart; neither sweet nor bitter. O: very interesting and very herbal, but refreshing.

12 oz bottle at home. Hazy golden with big white head. Aroma herby, thyme, sage, some sweet pale malts and yeast. Taste is herby, thyme, rosemary, faint sage, light yeast and sweet malt. Odd but drinkable

Bottle. Pours a hazy golden beer with a big white head on top. Aroma is very herbal, rosemary, bay leaf, coriander and sweet lemongrass. Some light peppery notes in there as well. Flavor is moderately sweet, well drinkable and again herbal. Loads of green herbs in the flavor, not overpowering but just suiting the beer quite nice. Well, quite heavily carbonated, very sparkling and very crisp. Aftertaste is sweet and medium short. Nice one!

A grass floral herb aroma. Has a fresh herbal garden sensation. Hazy yellow amber body. Silky white head is bountiful and thick. The suds cling to glass. Has a tart lemon garden taste. Like drinking an herbal garden. I do like but not crazy about it.
