COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The idea for this beer germinated way back in 2003 when the three guys (Sam from Dogfish, Greg from Stone and Bill from Victory) formed the BUFF alliance (Brewers United for Freedom of Flavor) - a noble endeavor with the goal to highlight the passion and camaraderie of the American craft brew movement.
So, BUFF didn’t really do anything (beyond talk a lot of talk) until 2010 when the three brewers finally got together to jointly brew at beer at the Stone Brewery. Saison du BUFF will first be brewed at Stone and then replicated at each of the other two breweries - same recipe, same ingredients, three different breweries throughout 2010.
Plans call for Saison du BUFF to be a 6% alc/vol Saison brewed with parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme. This beer will be brewed three times, once at each brewery using the same recipe. The expected release dates for each brew are as follows:

Crisp, Aromas of yeast and light fruit and lime citrus. A tinge of green in the color from the herbs. Sweet with a bitter finish. Tastes of lime, herbs, it’s yeasty with light spice.

Thanks to spinrsx for this. Pours cloudy gold with a small white top. Aroma is fruity, yeast and light malts. Taste is again very fruity and dry yeast. Has some crystal malt in it and nice sweetness to round it out.

Very grassy/herbaceous taste, with spice notes and decent hop bite. Pours a hazy ornage/gold with a medium head.

12 oz bottle from Dogfish Head Brewing & Eats in Rehoboth Beach, served in a branded snifter next to the Stone version. Pours hazy amber with a huge, fluffy off-white head that remains and laces well. The nose has big notes of grass, rosemary, sage, thyme, pepper, yeast and a touch of lemon. The flavour is mildly sweet with a spicy note that builds through the middle and takes over towards the end. The finish is long and peppery-spicy with a slight herbal quality. On the palate it is light-medium in body with a dryish texture and intense carbonation. Overall, this is a nice Saison with elegant herbal-spicy notes. Compared to the Stone version, it is maltier and slightly sweeter. Herbs are slightly less intense. I preferred the Stone version marginally, but both were well done. 2013-12-10

Bottled recently: 2012 Pours light yellow and carries an etched surface of white foam and residual spots of lace remain. Slightly yeasty, coriander, thyme and rosemary dominate this one for me. Flavor is substantially more belgian yeast and herbal character. A bit of a nutty hint from the yeast. The herbs are primarily parsley and thyme with burnt sage and some bitterness in the midpoint. Thin bodied with subdued carb and semi dry finish. Decent beer. Serving type: bottle 05-09-2012

8/5/2010. From bottle. Golden color with a white head. Aromas of garden spices, malt, light fruit. The grassy and spicy notes lead the way. Some citrus to make it a little tart.

Had this at the RB Pgh Halloween Spook-tacular Tasting/Drunkfest fall 2013, nice time at Hornydevil’s place, thanks James & Michelle! Had this side by side with the Stone version. A little stronger. Seems more medicinal than I like. Has some vanilla in there. Not much co2. Over, just seems like an old beer. Thanks to Hart for a chance to try this, you go mtoast.

A: Golden Straw Hue, Passes All Light, White Head Ring, Some Lacing S: Lemongrass, Thyme, Sage, Rosemary, White Pepper T: Lemongrass, Sage, White Pepper, Rosemary M: Average Carbonation, Light to Medium Bodied, Spicey, Lemony Overall, if you like saisons with lots of spice, then this is your beer. The beer delivers exactly as advertised, so if it doesnt sound appealing, then dont drink it. But a really good saison.
