COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The idea for this beer germinated way back in 2003 when the three guys (Sam from Dogfish, Greg from Stone and Bill from Victory) formed the BUFF alliance (Brewers United for Freedom of Flavor) - a noble endeavor with the goal to highlight the passion and camaraderie of the American craft brew movement.
So, BUFF didnít really do anything (beyond talk a lot of talk) until 2010 when the three brewers finally got together to jointly brew at beer at the Stone Brewery. Saison du BUFF will first be brewed at Stone and then replicated at each of the other two breweries - same recipe, same ingredients, three different breweries throughout 2010.
Plans call for Saison du BUFF to be a 6% alc/vol Saison brewed with parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme. This beer will be brewed three times, once at each brewery using the same recipe. The expected release dates for each brew are as follows:

Like itís two brothers this is a thanksgiving beer. Thanksgiving you say? Yes, thanksgiving. You see thanksgiving is marked by giving thanks for all the great things in life and copious amounts of sage, just like thus beer. Unlike itís two brothers this one is cloudy and has noticeable sediment. Did I mention the sage? I like it alright, but what the hell do I know about beer?

Pale yellow very bubbly clear pour with an inch of bright white head on top. Aroma has powdery florals, saison yeast, deep buttery herbs, laundry starch, some citrus rind. Average carbonation, lighter slick mouthfeel, finish leaves the mouth slightly numb. Buttery golden Belgian flavor, astringent peppery yeast flavor. More like a Belgian golden ale than saison. Herbs are indistinct. Much better on draft, fresh from stones brewery but this bottle was bottled three months ago so maybe thatís the main difference.

Very good saison. Pours a light, very slightly hazy, yellow with a lot of carbonation visible - and also with 2 fingers of foam that slowly recedes, but a thin layer remains throughout consumption. Very fruity nose - the sage is apparent. Taste is of some lemon and pepper - I usually find saisons "over-spiced" and this one has a great balance. Easy to drink.

12oz bottle, cloudy golden orange pour. Really nice herbal aroma with sour fruit. Taste is big on herbs and grassiness, light fruit and spicy yeast. Nice brew.

I get the spice from the parsley and sage and a grapefruity aroma from this pale hazy brew with a hint of orang and a white head. The 3 spices come out greatly in this medium bodied brew with a good carb. There is a hint of bitterness weaving in and out through out the taste. There is a base line sweetness that runs all the way through as well.

Should be called "Simon & Garfunkil" with these ingredients...but combined comes across as a peppery finish. Nice beer from a worthy collaboration.

Pours a yellow color with a bubbly white head. Heavy herbal notes with catty hops, ammonia, and sage. Nice supple mouthfeel. I dont know why but this beer will always remind me of tidy cat cat litter.

Bottle: The aroma consists of spicy Belgian yeast, light-moderate citrus, lemon peel, and light pepper. It pours a transparent dull gold/yellow with a small soapy head that eventually fades to a thin film. There is a lot of soapy lacing on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with citrus, Belgian yeast, and some light apple. The finish has light lemon peel and a touch of spice. Itís medium bodied with mild and a somewhat soft mouthfeel. Overall, this is too sweet for a Saison.
