World Wide Stout is one of the world’s strongest dark beers. It is brewed using six different yeast strains over seven months and then aged for half a year. Dark, rich, roasty, and complex, World Wide Stout has more in common with a fine port than a can of cheap, mass-marketed beer (released in early winter with very limited availability).

2008 bottle split with brent at woody’s. Dark brown pour with ruby highlights and wispy ring of light brown head. Nose of roasted malts, toffee, chocolate, and just the slightest indication of the abv. Flavors of muted alcohol, roast malt, raisins, smoke, leather, and an earthy dirt quality. Medium chewy body with fair carbonation. Anise and molassis come out more as it warms. This does a remarkable job of masking the abv. I know a lot of people were talking shit about the 2008 release, but this was just fine to me!

Draft @ Capone’s Dec ’08: Poured a dark brown/black color with not much head. The aroma was black licorice, strong alcohol, and coffee. The flavor was smooth, chocolate, coffee, alcohol, creamy, and dark fruits. Overall, this brew was aged for about a year, and the year was great to this beer. I’d love to get a few a put away for a couple years.

Is this beer or some magical whiskey formula? You can smell it even when your glass is on the table, wafting majestically through the air tickling every module in your nose- this is the malt version of Dogfish Head’s 120 minute. Fantastic smorgasbord of heavenly roasted sweetness. If it weren’t for the hefty price this would be a weekly staple. I am done with hard liquor, this is my new gateway to being smashed. This beer deserves to be in a flask.

2007 Bottle sampled at the Hopsnobbery Collective stout tasting on 1.16.09. I was afraid to try this after having a rather soy-riffic fresh bottle but I was pleasantly surprised with this beer after a year on it. Dark and oily pour, with no head (scary!) Very present aroma of nail polish remover, and maple syrup. Still got a hint of soy but it’s nothing like the nightmare of a fresh bottle. Sort of an airy finish. In two words: Booze Syrup.

2007 Bottle sampled at the Hopsnobbery Collective stout tasting on 1.16.09. Pours black with a medium beige head. Boozy aroma with some malty sweetness and licorice. Coffee flavor with some hop and a finish that is a tad sweeter then bourbon. More like brandy. Very good.

Bottle date 11/14/08. Poured black with a tan head. Initial aroma of black licorice but settles out to chocolate, roast coffee, vanilla, cherry, raisin, and some light spices. Alcohol is present but not overpowering as expected with its high abv. The flavor had chocolate, licorice, and some dark fruits. Full body, sweet, smooth, warming, and a licorice aftertaste. Awesome!!

Very dark dark auburn with a tan head that disappears. Smells like fresh roasted coffee and chocolate with botanicals and hops. Surprisingly light weight for it’s ridiculous alcohol. It has enough carbonation to keep it crisp, but it finishes heftly and still like an aged Pedro Ximenez. Chocolate, coffee, chicory, slightly smokey with mild hops on the finish. I taste mocha for a couple minutes after I take a sip, the finish is ridiculous. Very good, not the best.
