BMan1113VR (2758), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA Oct 1, 2008 Bottle thanks to Suttree. Unsure of the vinatage (not date stamped, 2004?). Pours with a small dark brown head that leaves, covering a solid black body. Alcohol legs left on the side of the glass. Good lacing. Aroma is amazing, alcohol, brandy, chocolate, nuts, raisins, liccorice, soy, cinnamon, vegimite, port, rich, complex and boozy. Taste is, unbelievable, wow! Chocolate and booze decadance, immediatly warming, with a astoundingly long (several minute) duration, with raisins, vanilla, port, and chestnuts in the trailing end. Like a fine chocolaty cognac. Syrupy with light carbonation. If you can drink a fine port you can drink this. Amazing stuff! PeaceRich (2), helsingborg, Sweden does not count Sep 29, 2008 Sep 25, 2008
Botled 2004.
chocolate, coffee, toast, roasty, leather, alcohol, licorice, raisin, soy sauce, vanilla, smoke, black, hazy, brown foam, heavy cloying sweetness, very bitter, medium sourness, full body, thick feel, soft carbonation, long finish.
This beer is close to perfection, the alcohol level is very well balanced.
Thanks to Andreas for buying this masterpiece at Oliver Twist in Stockholm. paytoplay (123), , California, USA Sep 29, 2008 Dark rich and the alcohol is so high it seems to lift and brighten the flavors. I’ve shared 2 bottles over the past month, consistant notes, 2007 version. Unique aroma and dark fruits, wood, richness and like nothing else I’ve ever had. ewestern (198), Ohio, USA Sep 29, 2008 Nice black pour with a slightly dark tan head that was on the thinner side though it stayed around. Aroma was full of roasted malts in the form of dark fruit scents and a chocolate caramel mixture and hint of floral aroma. All this with a strong undertone of alcohol. Flavor was the same. Mostly dark fruits, raisins and some caramel coming through, all again with a coating of alcohol. Unlike some other high alcohol content beers I have had the alcohol flavor did not diminish at all as the beer warmed up. Finished with a strong alcohol twist that did not hang around. For the alcohol flavor in there it was extremely easy to drink, very smooth and a nice thick body to is. The alcohol flavor and aroma to it nearly overpowers this beer and were it not for the complexity of the roasted malts, it would. Randy@KRS (4), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA does not count Sep 25, 2008 I really love this beer.I enjoy the high alcohol content which gives it a wine-like feel if you will. The flavors are very layered and it has a long long finish. One of the 2 best Imperial Stouts I’ve tasted. trevor211 (500), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 24, 2008 Updated: Apr 11, 2009Take a fine tawny port. Add notes of chocolate, vanilla, wood and slightly roasty malts. Add carbonation. Sheer bliss. This is the only beer I’ve ever had that made me stop in my tracks and savor it with every sip. The 20% carries a novelty, but it doesn’t wear off as you finish your glass. It’s incredible that they’ve managed to maintain a balance of flavors with this intense of a brew, not to mention a clean enough palate that its thickness didn’t make you cringe. There is absolutely nothing I don’t like about it. Offbeat, sure - call it an anomaly... call it an outlier... I say it’s utterly fantastic in every way. msante79 (785), Orland Hills, Illinois, USA Sep 19, 2008 Updated: Jun 5, 20092007 bottle. Pours dark brown almost black with thin toupe head. Very strong aroma of molasses, dark fruits, chocolate, bourbon, roasted malt and booze. Flavor is pretty intense with molasses, brown sugar, dark fruits, raisans, and very light alcohol burn. Mouthfeel is silky smooth. Cannot believe how well alcohol is hidden considering ABV. Very complex and rich brew that reminds me of Goose Island BCS. dogfish120love (250), west hartford, Connecticut, USA Sep 18, 2008 Updated: Sep 19, 20082007 bottle. pours black dark dark brown little head just around the edges. smells sweet like raisin, fig, and molasses, chicory.
