Fin (3382), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Jun 22, 2008 Had this at Mes’s 20-06-08 in the company of Mes, Ang and Loz, many thanks Mes for your generosity Pours jet black with tan head. There is a thick dark and treacly quality to this and the nose releases the unmistakeable aroma of camp coffee taking me back to my grandmothers kitchen back in the late seventies and early eighties. This is so heavy with malts, fizzing on the tip of the tongue, rich but bitter cocoa and the camp coffee, I think it must be the chicory that I’m getting from the camp coffee similarities. A quite wonderful beer and I really appreciate the fact that Mes cracked this little beauty open. Rciesla (3510), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Jun 20, 2008 Bottle. This is one hell of a beer. If i was to ignore the 18% i wouldnt rate this beer as highly. Lots of creamy chocolate, booziness, some chocolate coco, and a vinous character. A great stout. TheElder (49), DeSoto, Wisconsin, USA Jun 17, 2008 I just couldn’t wait and so now I have to go buy another one to age. Pours the darkest black you’ve seem with a dark tan head. The aroma is pleasantly light. Not boozy but instead smells of roasted marshmallows, caramel, and a trace of cocoa. This stout tastes, to me, like communion bread and wine together. Molasses, caramel, maltiness, then the burn of alcohol similar to a dark red table wine. Thank you, once more Dogfish Head! Échantillon, savourée au Mondial de la bière le 29 mai 2008; oeil : noire, petit anneau de mousse beige, opaque; nez : puissance, café, malt caramélisé, malt torréfié, fruits confits, réglisse, sauce soya, cassonade; bouche : puissance, liquoreux, malt torréfié, café, sauce soya, houblon amérisant, cassonade, finale en malt torréfié avec une bonne présence de malt caramélisé, corsée, peu carbonatée, légèrement salée, moyennement sucrée; en résumé : pas mal bon sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 15, 2008 Thick black with little brownish head. Roasty, matly despite the 18%. A lot thicker, a little less complex, more fruity and less spices than the the 120IPA.
Every sip as a strong undertone of alcohol, gives it a warmthly touch.
grandridge (222), Port Clinton, Ohio, USA Jun 13, 2008 I pour this bad boy as I sip a ten fidy and I become nervous because it pours with virtually no head and boasts a kick your ass 18%. It pours an uneventful black with no head. Aroma is roast, alcohol, and something I’ve never whiffed before in a stout. What is it? wine, some kind of syrup, licorice? Drinks like a port with alcohol burn flowing down to the stomach but not in the mouth. Sweet in the mouth but alcohol makes this a hard one to take more than once in awhile. It just seems as though they are out to pump as much alcohol as possible, but they do an alright job trying to mask it. Now I have to finish what I started: the ten fidy and the WWS. FrankSchick (5), Columbia, Maryland, USA does not count Jun 11, 2008 Very sweet, kind of champagne like. coffee, chocolate. Kind of like burnt smores. Not bad. Comes with a kick. One of the better dark stouts. arrogantb (695), Denver, Colorado, USA Jun 11, 2008 Serving type: bottle

2003 bottle shared with a friend. This stout was very tasty. It had all the roasty, coffee-like goodness you would expect but it was also sweet (in a good way). The mouthfeel was perfect but the drinkability sucks given the ABV. I also think the sweetness would get cloying if you drank a whole bottle. While I liked this beer, I don’t think the big stouts really are my thing.
