TheSponge (272), Lynnwood, Washington, USA Dec 27, 2007 Updated: Jan 27, 2008VERY sweet, and I agree with the commercial description....much more like a port than a beer.
Hints of espresso and molasses.
An awesome beer, but my heart still belongs to the DFH 120 Min. IPA. Jvittorio4187 (255), Boardman, Ohio, USA Dec 25, 2007 Bottle from mcbackus. Pours a vey thick, dark, black with a creamy brown head. Aroma is very sweet with chocolate, little roast, candy, and alchol. Mouthfeel is thick. Taste of sweet chocolate, sweet carmel, sweey licorice, sharp molasses, slight rasins, dates, and alchol. Finish is vey sweet and warm, hops a are faint. Preey good beer, a little sweet for me. MxPx1484 (13), USA Dec 24, 2007 Wowza! 2005 Vintage bottle (drank on its second birthday!!) So many flavors going on that I can begin to describe it. So stop being cheap and shell out that 8 bucks or whatever it is. WolfsBlood84 (103), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA Dec 23, 2007 12 oz.Bottle shared by Miko 2006 Release - Pours a dark black syrup with nearly no head, single dot lacings around the glass. Smells of licorice, coffee, chocolate, caramel, and heavily of alcohol. Taste is heavy of alcohol, chocolate, licorice, lots of maltiness. He paid $15 for this bottle and it reminds me a lot of Bell’s Expedition Stout - but it’s not near as sweet as the Ex - and a little more balanced. Damn good. mixinnixon2000 (227), Chicago, Illinois, USA Dec 23, 2007 This beer was the thickest beer I have ever had. almost like syrup. It leaves a thick brown resudue on the glass. Overall a good strong beer. ScoWRee (275), Phila, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 22, 2007 Pours a deep dark black with almost no head. Aroma is thick, sweet, coffee, licrace, choclate very nice. Taste is much like the aroma. Roasted coffee, black cherry. This is a nice stout! ChillCoat (1029), Concord, California, USA Dec 17, 2007 Rating #1000. Bottle sent to me by odeed a while back. Bottled on 10/29/05. Pours somewhat thick and very black with a quickly dissipating, effervescent tan head. Sweet roasted malt nose with a lot of plum notes and some coffee. Thick mouth feel. Roasty to the point of almost tasting smokey. Thick and sweet with molasses flavors and lots of alcohol. Dark fruits are everywhere; plums and raisins mostly and some licorice as it warms. The alcohol and sugars linger a bit at the end. Beerman6686 (1266), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 16, 2007 pours a dark black, with a thin tan head. Aroma of maple syrup, coffee, chocolate, and alcohol. Flavor of chocolate, coffee, and a nice alcohol burn at the end. Outstanding beer, but certainly not a beer ide wanna drink everyday.
