Commercial Description:
This listing encompasses: A) the November, 2001 release (18% abv), B) the November, 2003 U.S. (but not U.K.) release (18.8% abv), C) the November, 2004 release (18% abv), and D) the November 2005 release (17.8% abv) and E) all subsequent releases due both to their similarity in alcohol content and a lack of change in recipe. None of the releases’ labels provides its ABV, however:
2001 - (18%) displays the unaltered words "Vim and Vigor" on the label, gold cap
"Vim and Vigor" is crossed out only on the 2002 release (23%), which is not rated under this listing
2003 - U.S. release (18.8%). No "Vim and Vigor" present, gold cap.
2004 - Bright yellow cap, no date stamp
2005 - Bright yellow cap, date stamp
2006 - Dark green cap, date stamp
2007 - Dark green cap, date stamp
2008 - Yellowish-green cap, date stamp
World Wide Stout is one of the world’s strongest dark beers. It is brewed using six different yeast strains over seven months and then aged for half a year. Dark, rich, roasty, and complex, World Wide Stout has more in common with a fine port than a can of cheap, mass-marketed beer (released in early winter with very limited availability).

Aroma: intense - massive malt, touch of soy; palate: sweet, flavours of Tibetan butter tea, sweet milk chocolate, and just plain silky sweet malt. And most importantly in the superheavyweight division, it actually tastes like beer. What a concept. This release scored a 4.7 overall rating.

2003 release: Hotter, stiffer, more oily than the 2001. The fatness of malt just isn't there, and complexity is lacking. Still tasty, but to me a step down even from 2002 let alone 2001. Get that original one if you're seeking WWS.

Vintage 2001 (with my deepest disappointment for buying it at New Beers Distributors as Vintage 2002); 5+ years old
Black color; the head disappears quickly. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, glue, in equal proportion; young wood; dark chocolate with high percentage cocoa. Strong mouthfeel, it flows to the sides of the mouth like a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superfluid strong malt flavor, caramel, some molasses; it ends with a hint of rhubarb candies. It’s very sweet and the roasted malt doesn’t overwhelm the other flavors, extremely good!

[Courtesy of yespr, session @ yespr] Black with tiny brown head. Slightly smoked and sweet aroma with roasted malt, chocolate and coffee. Flavor is very sweet with vinous, overripe fruit, roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and smoky notes. Alcohol is very well hidden.

(8/15/07, 12oz bottle, 2003 release) After five-and-a-half years, it’s finally time to re-rate the first beer I rated on the site. Given how limited my description was for such an unusual beer, it’s actually well past time. Small brown head atop brown-black body. Aroma is moderately sweet, roast, coffee, chocolate, caramel, some burnt, vinous, light molasses, raisin, surprisingly light alcohol. Taste is sweet, molasses, vinous/raisin, caramel, some chocolate, roast/coffee, light anise. Some alcohol burn. Full body, sticky with low carbonation. As I observed back in 2002, "Sure there’s an alcohol flavor, but nothing like what you’d expect with this much alcohol."

Bottle from HogTownHarry drunk at Chris_o’s HogTownHarry meet up. Black with brown edges, little beige head. A lot of hot alcohol on aroma. Some impy stout. Not sure I can rate this. Thick and heavy. Juest too sweet/alcoholic. Lots of malt, too sweet.

Bottled, vintage 2003, 18.8 % ABV
Opaque black, no head. Aroma has cream toffee. Full-bodied, semi-sweet with lots of licorice. Portwineous palate. Hides ABV extremely well.
