3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 JLAudio (282) - Crestwood, Illinois, USA - DEC 11, 2007UPDATED: NOV 21, 2008 This beer poured somewhat thinner than I expected and had absolutely zero head which I was dissapointed with. It was slightly carbonated at first, just enough, and stayed consistant throughout. The aromas of chocolate, raisins, and roasted nuts were quite nice. The flavor was good, but I didn’t think it was as balanced as it could have been. There was an overlying sweetness that I didn’t exactly agree with, as it was actually cloying at times. The flavors though were very complex and delicious otherwise. The alcohol was definitley hidden well, for 18%. A sipping stout for sure.
3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Miked1687 (208) - Buffalo, New York, USA - MAY 14, 2013
2010 vintage Poured into a snifter. 200th review. Dark used oil brown appearance with a thin light brown head. Medium lacing. Aroma is huge booze, chocolate, Sweet dark fruits. Taste is sweet, tangy, brownie chocolate, dark chocolate, roasted malts, bitter coffee finish. The booze Aroma and taste is almost a soy sauce flavor. That must be from all of the barley and high abv. Medium thickness, still medium carbonation after a few years aging. Good stuff, I?ll try my other 2010 in another 2 years maybe.

This stout is a mixture of chocolate, cherries, dates, with a smoked taste, this stout is for anyone who loves full flavored beers that fill you up like a three course meal. Thank you Dogfish Head.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 jrodooo5 (489) - Wilmington, Delaware, USA - MAY 2, 2013
Mmmm. One of the great ones!. It has a standard stout pour - very dark with a thin white head that doesn’t leave much lacing. The aroma is primarily boozey with some sweet licorice notes. The taste is semi-sweet toffee like without any bitterness. It’s malty goodness & rather smooth at 18%. Absolutely phenomenal! So good I used it for my wedding toast instead of the traditional champagne! Beautiful man!

2008: Aroma of alcohol. Pours a dark black with no head. Silky smooth and oily. Slight amount of heat but very tasty.
2009: More alcohol in the aroma than the 2008. Same pour, more heat. Still smooth.
2010: Even more alcohol aroma. Surprisingly less heat. Still silky smooth.

Bottle from 2008. Pours black with brown head. Little lacing. Smells of licorice, chocolate and malt. Tastes of caramel with hints of chocolate. Intense barley heat on the backend. Smooth mouthfeel. Nice carbonation. Roasty taste on the palette. A sneaky amount of alcohol. Overall a complex intense stout.

Very strong dark stout. Although high AVB, the flavor is not compromised. Bold taste.

12ozbottle from Hegedorns. Pours a inky black, looks a little thinner than I thought it would be. Strong aromas of rubbing alcohol, roast. Coffee is absent from the nose. Taste is very boozy, cloying. Very hot. Not my favorite.
